FYI, the name game can be a confusing one in the gadget world. HDD -- hard disk drive -- and HD -- high definition -- are easily mixed up. SD cards and SD -- standard definition -- are even worse. Panasonic has only gone and launched an HD camcorder with both 'HD' and 'SD' in its name: the Panasonic HDC-SD9. Not to be confused with a space station sitting on the edge of a wormhole -- that's DS9 -- the SD9 is one of the smallest 1,920x1,080-pixel shooters going.

The SD-480E certainly isn’t the last word in DVD picture quality, with some problems thrown up by test patterns, but despite this there’s still a lot to admire about its images, particularly when playing back movies. What’s more, there’s a decent range of connections, it’s easy to use and there are some useful features, all of which means you could do a lot worse for £50.

The first Wii Disc Dumper required a PC and 50 hours of backup time. The latest v1.2 by nitrotux requires only a Wii loaded with an SD card to make backups of single and dual layer Wii titles as well as GameCube games. The only catch is that the Wii needs to be rebooted during the process quite a few times (3 for SL DVD, 6 for DL DVD and 1 for a GameCube disc). So while the process won't take 50 hours, it's not exactly an instantaneous, one-step backup, either. [El Otralado via Maxconsole]

The affordability of digital cameras and SD cards and widespread distribution of tutorials and techniques of photography have transformed many crowds of consumers into amateur digital photographers. They buy 16GB SDHC cards to store the memories. They read the tutorials and techniques for taking good pictures. And they know that post-processing matters in photography. Sadly, they also realize that learning how to use a full blown version of Adobe Photoshop would take up a lot of their time and resources just for a few features that they'd probably need. Not to mention that the professional Adobe Photoshop version, in terms of costs, is out of range of most consumers. Adobe actually saw this trend and created a product just for the amateur photographers: I'm talking about Adobe Photoshop Elements -- for simplicity in use and attractive pri
