New Digital Photography Life Podcast Launched with Hosts Scott Sherman and Michael Stein

October 30, 2008 -- In early October, The Podcast Network announced that Scott Sherman, host of The Digital Photography Show, had decided to move on and that the he was no longer going to be hosting the show. Just a couple of weeks later, Scott Sherman and co-host Michael Stein have launched a new show on the Personal Life Media network. The new "Digital Photography Life" show should be very familiar to those that have listened to Scott and Michael - where the focus again will be on discussing the latest cameras, accessories, and software as well as offering tips, techniques, interviews and reviews.

GNUveau Networks builds solar-powered Linux computer networks for remote villages (video)

Scott Johnson of GNUveau Networks has developed a solar-powered Internet "hub" system (running Ubuntu GNU/Linux) that he builds to order in his Daytona Beach, Florida, home. His objective is to bring computers and the Internet to places that have no connectivity, no phone service, and no electricity. This is no pipe dream. There are real SolarNetOne installations running in Africa right now, providing wireless connectivity and "Internet Cafe" access to hundreds of people. The system uses off-the-shelf hardware that Scott modifies to run on 12V -- and to use a lot less power than the stock versions. As Scott says, in solar-powered computer installations, "The Watt is king."

Great Scott, what a mixture of art and reality

There was a time, back in the 1960s, when if you wanted some art to hang on your wall you went to Boots. You bought either Tretchikoff's The Chinese Girl or a Peter Scott: Ducks Ascending, or Ducks Descending, or something along those lines - a lot of sky at the top, a bit of water at the bottom, and a flock of ducks uniting the two. If you prided yourself on your good taste, however, you regarded both artists as kitsch and naff and otherwise unacceptable.
