TOKYO (Reuters) - Shares of Japanese electronics maker Sanyo Electric Co Ltd (6764.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) bucked an overall downtrend and climbed before an expected announcement later on Friday that Panasonic Corp (6752.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) plans to take over the smaller rival.

TOKYO, Nov 07, 2008 (Reuters via COMTEX) -- PC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Shares of Japanese electronics maker Panasonic Corp fell 8 percent ahead of an expected announcement later on Friday of its plans to take over smaller rival Sanyo Electric Co Ltd.

While markets continue to sag and a recession looms, artists at an annual visual arts festival in Vancouver say the local art scene is flourishing despite economic uncertainty.

Valerie Arntzen, executive director of the Eastside Culture Crawl, says people turn to art in times of economic uncertainty.
