iPhone Coming to Verizon: There are signs that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) is working on an EVDO version of the iPhone, possibly for Verizon (NYSE: VZ), 9to5mac reports. According to a tipster with âsome Verizon insider credentials,â Apple might be announcing iPhones for the carrier as early as Macworld 2009, little more than three months from now. The story reinforces the rumor with recent Apple job postings for EVDO and CDMA engineers, but points out that WiMAX engineers have also been sought after. WiMAX would indicate that Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR) and other WiMAX carriers might be in play as well. AT&T is supposed to have an exclusive on Appleâs iPhone into 2010, but 9to5mac shot down the USA Today story on the matter as “falsely reported rumors.

image-- India’s “small but enthusiastic” reception: Maharajas, rich kids, and entrepreneurs: so thatâs whoâs buying the iPhone in India, according to a Reuters report from the front line, which found that the launch of the iconic handset in India had ânone of the mass hysteriaâ that accompanied its debut in the US, Europe and other parts of Asia in July. Priced at $700-$800 in India, or twice the monthly salary of a white collar middle manager, the iPhone response was predicted. Still, it was an âenthusiastic reception,â and for those who can afford it, the phone gives them bragging rights in a country where mobile phones are still seen as âsymbols of status and success,â and where the phone has already enjoyed a strong run in the black market.

This afternoon Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) pulled the wraps off the iPhone 2.0.2 firmware update, its latest update for the device. Aside from “bug fixes” and tangential improvements it doesn’t appear to resolve the iPhone 3G’s connectivity issues, yet some are still hopeful. The jury’s still out on whether the new device’s troubles are linked to a faulty chipset or network problems at AT&T (NYSE: T), but more importantly can it even be fixed with a software update? Details on the update are still scant at this point, but the 242 megabit update is available at iTunes for those hoping to see an end to all those dropped calls. Wishful thinking or has Apple nipped this mess in the bud?
