The roboTest F robotic testing system is designed for flexible specimens, such as films, textiles and fleece materials, but even metals andwires can be tested using the corresponding grips and tooling. The system allows testing to be carried out overnight and at weekends therebyreducing the need for shift working. In addition it is possible to carry out testing using unsupervised or relatively unskilled operators.Robotic testing systems simplify the processes required for quality management systems such as ISO 9001 because the testing sequence is pre-programmed, and not subject to human error. Results and long term statistics are also available in real-time helping to minimise communication inefficiencies between different production processes.

Washington - The Phoenix Mars Lander has released its robotic arm to begin prodding the Red Planet's surface to look for chemistry that could support life, NASA officials said Thursday. NASA officials hope the robotic arm can poke into the surface to substantiate evidence of ice or water in the northernmost areas of Mars that could have supported life. Chemical compositions can be analyzed aboard the craft and the results beamed back to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

If documenting trips to faraway lands is beginning to take time away from actually enjoying them, then a robotic picture-taking duck may be just what you need. In an effort to "to liberate cameras from human operation," South Korean artist Taeyoon Choi created a traveling companion, "Camerautomata Charlie: Image Digesting Robotic Duck," that snaps photographs in response to other camera flashes and can print them on the spot or upload them to your favorite website using WiFi. The piece is being presented as part of a larger exhibit, "Tourists and Travelers," currently on display at Eyebeam Studios.

After receiving instructions for a movement that would have damaged its wrist, the robotic arm recognized the problem, tried to rectify it and then shut down before it could damage itself, according to Ray Arvidson, a co-investigator for the Mars Lander's robotic arm team and a professor at Washington University in St. Louis."

WASHINGTON, June 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Conditions on the moon will be harsher, but prototype NASA robotic vehicles braved sand storms and unprecedented temperature swings this month on sand dunes near Moses Lake, Wash., to prepare for future lunar expeditions. Teams from seven NASA centers and several universities conducted the tests from June 2-13. "The goal was to gain hands-on experience with specific technical challenges anticipated when humans return to the moon by 2020, begin to explore the lunar surface, and set up outposts," said Test Director Bill Bluethmann of NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. NASA's Human Robotic Systems Project, part of the agency's Exploration Technology Development Program, focused on human and robotic mobility systems for the moon, but also looked at communication and command and control syste
