Google unveils Android platform roadmap, accepts patches

Google has published a short-term roadmap for Android that provides some insight into the company's plans for upcoming feature enhancements.

"Karasick also pointed forward to the Symphony roadmap for 2009, when future generations of Symphony will be developed entirely on the ODF 1.2 and OpenOffice 3.0 software code base, bringing it in line with the newest OO technology. This advance will also enable seamless interoperability with Microsoft Office 2007 file formats and support Visual Basic macros next year.

Europe unveils 20-year astronomy roadmap

Europe’s funding agencies must increase astronomy spending by 20% in order to construct the next generation of space and ground-based telescopes. That’s the main conclusion of a roadmap published by scientists and funding bodies from 28 European nations as well as European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO). The report also makes two ground-based projects – the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) and the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) — “clear top priorities” for construction within the next 10 years.

Washington, D.C. — The Planetary Society today outlined a vigorous new approach to space exploration for the consideration of the new U.S. Administration and Congress. "Beyond the Moon: A New Roadmap for Human Space Exploration in the 21st Century" calls for the United States to create -- in cooperation with international partners -- a space program that is as inspiring as it is sustainable in the world’s current economic climate.

AMD CPU Roadmap Update 2009-2011

While speaking at their annual financial analyst day today, AMD provided members of the press a glimpse of their latest CPU and GPU roadmaps. AMDs GPU update was rather slim, with the company reiterating previously disclosed guidance from CEATEC for next year: DirectX 11 and 40-nm are all on tap for release with their next-generation RV870 GPU in 2009.

DigiTimes has updated their outlook for AMD's 45-nm plans. According to DT's sources, AMD plans to launch two 45-nm Deneb-based Phenom X4 CPUs this month, the 3.0GHz Phenom X4 20550 and the 2.8GHz X4 20350. Then, in Q1 next year AMD is expected to launch six triple-core CPUs as well as six new Deneb CPUs and four entry-level Propus-based Phenoms.

Live Blogging: IBM Rolls Out 'Event Processing' Roadmap, Goes After Business Agility

I'm at the Taj Hotel, attending IBM's eXtreme Business Event Processing Summit, looking to live blog the action as IBM's Software Group senior VP Steve Mills takes the stage to make what's expected to be some big announcements. I'll be updating this blog with text, photos, and eventually video (once we get it produced). First up at the podium was IBM SOA & WebSphere VP Sandy Carter (photo below), who set the stage by defining the term "event," setting the tone for IBM's road map to make businesses more agile in the way they respond to such events.
