ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT

That this House congratulates the Government on successfully introducing the Artist's Resale Right in 2006; notes that under the new right the Design and Artists Copyright Service has so far collected more than £5.2 million on behalf of more than 1,500 artists, who have now received royalties with an average payment of £501 per work of art; believes this has strengthened the flourishing British art market by supporting struggling artists; and considers that the right should be extended to the estates of deceased artists as soon as possible without extending the current derogation beyond 2010.

Ruling Affirms eBay Seller's Right to Resell Promo CDs

A federal judge affirmed an eBay seller's right to resell promotional CDs that he buys from secondhand stores, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which represented the seller. Universal Music Group (UMG) accused Troy Augusto of copyright infringement over 26 auction listings involving promo CDs. At issue was whether the "promotional use only, not for sale" labels on those CDs could trump Augusto's right to resell materials that he owns, guaranteed by copyright law's "first sale" doctrine. The EFF published a statement on its website, stating in part:

Killing "Whitey" or Not? Rightbloggers React to Michelle Obama Rumors.

Editor's note: After penning the popular "The Official Village Voice Election-Season Guide to the Right-Wing Blogosphere," Roy Edroso, an apparent glutton for punishment, has made dissecting those blogs into a weekly feature that appears here every Monday (except on holiday weeks). So far, Roy has tried to untangle the twisted logic of the right's undying love of Big Oil and how bad news for conservatives actually become good news when viewed through the funhouse mirror that is the right-wing blogosphere. ]

2012: No Planet X

Apparently, Planet X (a.k.a. Nibiru) was spotted by astronomers in the early 1980's in the outermost reaches of the Solar System. It has been tracked by infrared observatories; seen lurking around in the Kuiper Belt and now it is speeding right toward us and will enter the inner Solar System in 2012. So what does this mean to us? Well, the effects of the approach of Planet X on our planet will be biblical, and what's more the effects are being felt right now. Millions, even billions of people will die, global warming will increase; earthquakes, draught, famine, wars, social collapse, even killer solar flares will be caused by Nibiru blasting through the core of the Solar System. All of this will happen in 2012, and we must begin preparing for our demise right now…
