Quite a few years ago, I thought it would be fun and possibly profitable to sell a wall calendar based on a popular Web site I had created. Researching my options at the time, the only way to produce a quality calendar at a reasonable wholesale cost was to have them printed in bulk by a press. This required investing a good chunk of change up front and hoping to sell enough calendars to push this venture into the black.

Peter (Professor) Fo writes "I've recently had two CD-Rs reported to me as faulty which are just 3 years old. This is worrying — I suspect the failure rate for this batch could be 10%. When researching CD longevity there is old and unreliable information; pious 'how to cosset your discs so they last 100 years' blurb; and endless discussions of what sort of dye to use, don't use cheap media, burn slower (or don't), but not much by way of hard facts besides there's a lot of data loss going on. Does anyone know of a generic utility (win or *nix would suit me) that can map sector readability/error rates of CDs? I'd like to measure decay over time in my environment with my media and my other variables; and I expect others would too."

When it comes to search engines, Web 3.0 or semantic web means systems learn the contexts of a word to be able to perform more targeted queries; no more hit or miss result. More precisely called semantic search, it could make researching for information a lot easier, especially since the web has grown astronomically over the years. True to the sense of Web 3.0 and clean technology, Truevert is a Web 3.0 search engine dedicated to the topic. So, for example, if you type a query for "solar," you're not going to get results about solar eclipses, you'll get results for solar energy instead. There's even a list of filters you can use to segregate your search results into more specific topics.

The study, which surveyed 3,000 Americans via telephone, also revealed that online shoppers are more prone to buying high-tech gadgets than average shoppers.
