Blog Buzz: Controversy Over Rashid Khalidi and Barack Obama, Sarah Palin Is 'of Course' Not Ready to Be President, Obama Ousts Dissenting Reporters

Liberal and conservative bloggers continue to spar over the issue of Barack Obama's relationship with Rashid Khalidi, a professor at Columbia University and an advocate for Palestinian rights. Also at issue is a video that the Los Angeles Times will not release that shows Obama at a party celebrating Palestinian culture that was held in Khalidi's honor. Conservative bloggers say that it's "very suspicious" that the Times, which is "in da tank," will not publish the video of Obama at an "Israel-bashing dinner." A blogger at National Review Online says while John McCain has had "dalliances" with Khalidi, they don't compare to the "depth of relationship" that Obama has with the scholar. Liberal bloggers are disgusted by McCain, who has made the relationship an issue in the campaign, saying that in his desperation he has stooped to "McCarthyi

Our Love/Hate Relationship with Systems Biology

Derek Lowe has a post at In the Pipeline on systems biology, which he defines in broad strokes as "trying to model the interactions of whole biological systems, in an attempt to come up with come explanatory power." Lowe says the sheer complexity of biological systems means that scientists are likely to be constrained by available technology, compute power, and other hindrances. "My first test for listening to systems biology people is whether they approach things with the proper humility," he writes. But he adds that the potential payoff of this approach is significant, and that it needs to be pursued. "So press on, systems people, and good luck," he concludes.

IRS Looking at Google/Mozilla Relationship

ric482 writes "With the release of the Mozilla Foundation's 2007 financial report, questions have been raised by the IRS, who are due to perform an audit on the non-profit organization behind the massively popular Firefox browser. Last year, the Foundation received $66 million of its total $75 million revenue (88 percent) from search engine maestros Google, so the IRS are looking for blood over the organization's tax exempt status. Back in 2006, Mozilla got $59.5 million from Google — around 85 percent of the organization's revenue. Google and Mozilla are part of a 'you scratch my back, I'll pay your bills' sort of agreement with the Google search bar firmly placed in the toolbar, and on the default homepage. Things were a bit rocky a couple of months back when Google unveiled the Beta-run of its Chrome browser, but Mozilla and Google h

Didiom Streams Your Entire iTunes Library to Your BlackBerry

The software relationship between RIM and Apple is growing more and more passionate, with third-party companies stoking the the fire that RIM started with its iTunes pairing program, BlackBerry Media Sync. Like Simplify Media for the iPhone, Didiom is an app for virtually any recent BlackBerry that allows for full streaming of a user's iTunes music library over the phone's data connection. The streaming feature looks like it is at least in part a promotional ploy for a built-in upstart music store, but that looks easy enough to ignore. For interface details check out the video above, featuring the same honeyed, suicide-inducing voice as every retail job training video of the last 25 years. [Slashphone]
