It should be obvious to any Slashdotter of a certain age that this is the true origin of the so called 'centipede' in the eponymous game."

Apple patent hints eSATA storage for Macs

Apple has been exploring the possibility of adding external Serial ATA (eSATA) to its Mac lineup through a unique method, the company has revealed through a newly published patent filing. The application both references adding the format to a computer for outside storage but also the possibility of an outside computer accessing this storage through a switching mechanism; holding a key on startup or toggling a hardware control on the host computer would start up a low-power mode that makes its internal storage available as though it were external drive attached to the other system.

Using Your Cell Phone as a Broadband Modem on Linux

This guide seeks to aggregate and improve upon information I gathered from various sources in order to get PC internet access thru a Blackberry working on Linux. They were tested on a Blackberry 8703e, but should apply if generalized slightly for other devices - the important part for non-blackberry users would be how to use the configuration scripts described. Please refer to the bottom of the guide where I cite references which were huge in making this possible.

Many Aussies were devastated by last month's news that Fallout 3 had been refused classification (effectively banning it from release). There have been several casualties of Australia's archaic videogame ratings system over the years but few have been as highly anticipated as Fallout 3 (picked as IGN's Game of Show at this year's E3). Speaking to retail today we were told that Fallout 3 will be released mid-October with its references to specific drugs altered.

Rare Q&A With Rockstar Games Head Sam Houser

Paul Williams writes "Develop Magazine has posted a fascinating multi-part interview with Sam Houser, president and founder of Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar Games. Houser is rarely quoted outside of press releases, and almost never does interviews. So, reading his frank views on things like Rockstar's critics, the creative secrets that make games like GTA IV a success, and how the developer rejects things like focus testing — a common practice at the likes of EA but an 'anathema to creativity' according to Houser — is very interesting. Houser has even written a mini biography of his career with some fun references to the Hot Coffee scandal: 'July 2005: Residue code found in San Andreas. Hackers modify it and it turns into scandal known as "Hot Coffee.
