Hasselblad has announced the launch of a new generation of raw processor, workflow and camera control software, Phocus version 1.0 for Mac. Providing the ultimate processing tool for Hasselblad digital images, the new Phocus RAW processor is said to deliver perfect colors through the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution, and includes digital lens corrections for color aberration, distortion and vignetting (DAC I, II and III). Another key advantage and designed to save hours of post-production work, Phocus’s leading edge moiré removal technology allows image detail to be preserved, even on extremely high resolution images. By automatically removing moiré directly from the raw data, image quality remains intact, while any need for special masking selections or other manual procedures is eliminated.

Adobe has launched version 2 of its Lightroom raw processing and workflow tool. The result of feedback from professionals and a public bate process, version 2 of the software follows the basic structure of its predecessor but with a variety of tweaks and additions. The most obvious change is an increased ability to make localized changes. This include a gradient tool that allows alterations to be applied selectively across an image. Adobe Camera Raw has also been updated with support for the Olympus E420 and E520.

Capture One 4 (CO4, if you will) is a raw file processor/organizer that shares many features, albeit with its own nomenclature and workflow, with products such as Apple’s Aperture and Adobe’s Lightroom. Competitively priced at $129 (for a two computer license), owners of Phase One’s Capture One LE can upgrade to 4 free of charge, and Capture One PRO users can use CO4 free until the next generation of PRO is available. Those curious can try out the program for free for 30 days by visiting the company’s website (www.phaseone.com/4). I have worked with raw images in most camera company proprietary software

Dammika Prasad's raw pace pulled India back after an explosive start, whereupon the spinners took charge of the game, as has been their wont over the course of the series. India's middle order failed again, as they fell from 51 for 0 in seven overs to 198 for 9, after which Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma frustrated Sri Lanka for one ball less than 20 overs - the longest partnership of the innings, and at 51 runs also the joint highest. Ishant followed up the good work with the bat to get Malinda Warnapura's wicket two overs before stumps.

(Nanowerk Spotlight) The demand for the raw materials of the nanotechnology revolution – nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, quantum dots, etc – is rising explosively and large chemical companies keep expanding their production capacities. As production moves from a workshop model to an industrial production process, prices for these materials are coming down fast. Nowhere has this trend been more noticeable than with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), where prices have more or less collapsed from their astronomical levels: a kilogram of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) sold for tens of thousands of dollars just a few years ago; by now, the price for some types of MWCNTs has fallen to only hundreds of dollars per kg.
