Fans of AM radio have largely been left out in the cold by MP3 player manufacturers. The excuses are many, but the main reason most device makers avoid the feature is due to the relatively large space required of an AM antenna, thus inhibiting the overall compactness of the final product. PoGo Products briefly came to the rescue with a line of AM-friendly MP3 players, but the company ceased production of the line after only a few years. Filling the void is the C. Crane Witness AM/FM MP3 Player, a basic radio-cum-MP3 player reminiscent of the Radio YourWay LX. Even with its throwback design and monochrome display, the Witness will cost you a pretty penny--$229.95 for 2GB--but AM radio fans have little other choice, and will likely be plenty pleased with the features on offer.

Radio is hardly a technology to brag about among your high-tech friends, but if you look beyond the hissing FM/AM radios that can be found every other home a couple of decades ago, there is still a lot of things going on. FM broadcasts are still largely available but we also have Internet radio nowadays, also known as podcasts, which are very popular among computer users. Retro-inspired FM radios have been a real fad over the last couple of years and Sanyo has now combined the two with its retro designed Internet radio R227.

One of iTunes' oft-overlooked features is the Radio entry in the Library section of the sidebar. Here you'll find streaming radio from around the world, covering everything from music (alternative, classical, hard rock, etc.) to comedy to sports to talk. Although I don't use the feature as much as I should, one of my favorite local FM stations has a presence there, so it's a good way to listen to that station while I work--ironically, in my office full of high technology gear, there's not a TV or radio to be found.

It goes without saying: Internet radio is cool, and so are Internet radios. Don't comprehend the distinction? Head to your local CE retailer and lay your hands on sweet devices like the Sanyo R227. It looks like a tabletop radio because, well it is. But the device is also Ethernet-enabled, so you can tune into thousands of Internet radio stations just as you would through your desktop browser. Or rather, it's almost that easy - but we'll get to that story in just a minute.

For as long as I have been involved in satellite radio, there have always been the rumors of a relationship with Apple (AAPL). The iPod has redefined how people listen to music, and for satellite radio fans, a partnership seemed natural. However, Apple has never been a singer of the same tune, and to this day, integration of satellite radio and Apple has been a pipe dream.

Remember the Pioneer Inno portable XM satellite radio receiver? A few years ago, several recording studios filed suit against the satellite radio provider, claiming that the device, which hit the Canadian market in summer 2006, infringed on copyrights by allowing owners to record live XM content through the XM+MP3 feature. Now, more than a year later, the company is coming back with a vengeance via a new device cleverly called the XMp3 that combines a satellite radio receiver with an MP3 player…and lets you record live XM content.

Several years ago, when I was looking for a new clock radio for my nightstand, Boston Acoustics' Recepter Radio stood out for its simplicity, elegance, and performance. Unlike most clock radios, the interface wasn't littered with buttons, and the few controls it did have were intuitive and easy to use. Radio reception was excellent, audio quality was great, and Boston even got the smallest details right: the buttons were all soft rubber so they wouldn't make noise when pressed--I didn't have to worry about waking my already-asleep better half with loud, clicky buttons when setting an alarm. The Recepter remains one of my favorite gadget purchases, and it still sits on my nightstand.
