Hands-On Mobile has ported a 1980s space-shooter game, Crystal Quest, to the iPhone. Crystal Quest was the first color game for the Mac, launched in 1987, and has been retrofitted with updated graphics. Players fly a spaceship collecting crystals in space, while simultaneously trying to evade enemies that attack from the sides of the screen. Gamers defend themselves with a combination of guns and smartbombs as they try to progress to the next level.

It is probably best, in the interests of full disclosure, that I start this review by pointing out that I'm a huge fan of the Ratchet and Clank games. From the series debut on the PS2 all the way through sequels and PSP efforts to last year's fantastic PS3 release I've jumped, shot and chuckled my way around their colourful world enjoying pretty much every second of it over the years. All of which brings us neatly to Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, the mini sequel to Tools of Destruction.

Gallery 3 in Houston presents "Alchemy – A Show of New Paintings by Becky Soria: during November 2008. Becky Soria has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2002. Bruce Leutwyler states, "Alchemy - the quest to turn base metal into gold. No, like a painting, it is the quest to turn base material, base flesh into spirit. But what is spirit, what is flesh really? In a departure from, yet a movement forward in her investigation of the female form, Becky's new paintings may remind one who contemplates them of the unfinished sculptures in the Accademia Di Belle Arti in Florence. The human figures in them are not so much abstracted forms, as forms coming into existence or dissolving out of existence into the primal elements that constitute them.

Seeing is exhilarating. So it would seem, going by the intense pleasure we derive by merely seeing things. Last month, I took a brief vacation in Corbett national park, where the only question worth asking seemed to be if anyone saw it, by which one of course meant a tiger. One needed to get up roughly at bedtime, stand in a queue for a few hours, spend a couple of hours hurtling over roads made entirely out of potholes, ooh and aah exaggeratedly when encountering pug marks, only to returned empty eyed, having had to make to do with seeing what one was told was a rare exotic bird and some horned deer.

IconThis (quite long) article has been written by me for two primary reasons: One, to hopefully save someone else the time and hassle associated with trying out various Linux distributions, and two, to promote some discussion and feedback regarding what a modern Linux distribution should be, and of course to contrast this with what is currently available. I am exploring the offerings of MS Windows, BeOS and MacOSX, and then taking on a number of well-known Linux distributions.

For decades now enthusiasts have tweaked their PC to boot as fast as possible. Whether it’s optimizing your autoexec.bat file, as many users did back in the DOS days, or minimizing the number of apps that load during Windows startup, we’ve all tried it. Hardware enthusiasts will pick up the fastest hard drives, CPUs, and add more RAM all in attempt to shorten load times.

coondoggie sends this excerpt from NetworkWorld: "The US Army Research Office and the National Security Agency (NSA) are together looking for some answers to their quantum physics questions. ... The Army said quantum algorithms that are developed should focus on constructive solutions [PDF] for specific tasks, and on general methodologies for expressing and analyzing algorithms tailored to specific problems — though they didn't say what those specific tasks were ... 'Investigators should presuppose the existence of a fully functional quantum computer and consider what algorithmic tasks are particularly well suited to such a machine. A necessary component of this research will be to compare the efficiency of the quantum algorithm to the best existing classical algorithm for the same problem.
