Expanding the REDFLY beyond its initial niche of Windows Mobile devices, Celio today launched two new versions of its notebook-style smartphone add-on. The REDFLY C8N adds a new media port and matching cable that can either serve as an extra USB port or as a composite video input for handhelds that simply need the external screen rather than the keyboard and trackpad; it can now serve as a larger 800x480 screen for an iPhone, Zune or most other portable devices for up to eight hours without plugging in. It ships with VGA output for $299, while its matching cable costs $20.

"XenApp and XenDesktop provide the means for users to access their Apps and Desktops from a wide variety of platforms and devices. At Citrix our vision is to create a world where anyone can work and play from anywhere. Mobility is not new to Citrix. There are XenApp clients available today for Windows Mobile and Symbian devices, but small form factor devices have had their challenges. Samsung is close to releasing a cellphone with a camera that's both high-resolution and with real optical zoom, according to a report by Telecoms Korea. The combined package would include an eight-megapixel sensor like those in shipping Samsung camera phones but would also have a 3X zoom system to deliver longer-ranged and more accurately focused shots than most cellphones, which normally rely on digital zoom that simply scales pixels upwards.
