Patent Gridlock Harming The Ability To Create Lifesaving Cures

I've gotten way behind on my series of posts on intellectual property. I plan to pick it up again shortly. There's a big post I've been working on that I just haven't had the time to complete. However, one of the upcoming posts in the series is going to focus in on the question of pharmaceutical patents. While some claim that the pharma industry is an example where patents actually work effectively, there's plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise. I'll try to highlight much of that evidence, but it looks like Michael Heller is doing some of that already. Heller, the author of The Gridlock Economy, which we recently mentioned has penned a piece for Forbes, where he points out how the rise of patents in the pharma and biotech world is not leading to new cures.

Breaking Down Blog Spam Malware

Jesper Johansson, co-author of Windows Vista Security: Securing Vista Against Malicious Attacks, recently wrote an article in The Register which dissects a new type of threat. Anyone with a blog has probably seen blog spam- comments made on blog posts which have little or nothing to do with the actual blog post, but contain links to spam-related web sites. I have spam filters in place, so I rarely even see the blog spam posts. They are an annoyance, and I simply delete them in periodic batches. However, Jesper did stop to look at the spam and noticed that a new breed was becoming prevalent. The new breed, rather than just leading to some annoying spam site, are actually malware attacks. For a complete breakdown of the threat, and Jesper's dissection and analysis, check out Anatomy of a Malware Scam.

Blog Tips: 8 Ways to Get People to Read your Content!

The reason we all write search engine optimization blogs and content for our websites is because we have something that we feel is important to say, and we want to get that message out to the public and to our potential consumers. Unfortunately, as my boss has pointed out in one of his posts that only 16% of people actually read blog posts and the rest of us simply scan them for pertinent information. I have to be honest, as a reader and a writer I found this to be a shocking number and had a bit of a hard time accepting it. But, as Jeff explained to me, most of us are thrown so much information in one day that we simply don't have enough time to read it all.

Does Twitter help SEO?

My gut response to this question is "No," and according to Totus Internet Marketing that's true. But even if Twitter doesn't help you with SEO it can be a good marketing tool if you are willing to take the time to use it well. Just setting up an RSS feed into Twitter won't help. In fact, it will only attract the attention of other spammers. But if you are willing to join the conversation you can use Twitter to also market your website. My rule of thumb, try to keep the automated posts to around 1 for every 3-5 real posts you send. And remember to reply to people. You can't expect people to interact with you if you don't interact with them. Follow me on Twitter.
