Apple may be closer to bringing the iPhone to China, a new job offer posting suggests. The company is looking for an iPhone Quality Assurance Engineer, to be located in Beijing. China represents an enormous market for mobile phones, but negotiations for the iPhone may have lasted longer than expected. Shortly before the iPhone 3G launch, Apple CEO Steve Jobs told CNBC that Chinese and Russian announcements would "happen later this year." The Russian launch occurred early in October, but the company has been quiet about any progress in China.

It was the dream posting -- sea and sunshine on a paradise island. But a blog by British diplomat Marianne McCurrie on the Foreign Office Web site, bragging about her "cushy" job and beach life in the Seychelles, has raised a few eyebrows back home. "So yes, it's all amazing beaches, palm trees and jealous friends and relatives," she wrote. The blog has provoked some lively responses from readers at a time when Britain is facing the onset of winter and staring recession in the face. "I'm glad my tax money is being spent on a "cushy" posting -- when you should be up to your ears in paperwork, we need extra value for money and we need every penny's worth of effort from you," commented Mark C. Ms. McCurrie could not be reached yesterday at the British mission in Victoria, capital of the Indian Ocean archipelago.

It would appear that Wal-Mart's lawyers need to come up with excuses to keep billing Wal-Mart every year around this time. Despite the fact that Wal-Mart employees admit that sites posting "Black Friday Ads" help drive more business, Wal-Mart's hired guns keep threatening sites for posting the ads, falsely claiming a copyright on the content (hint: you can't copyright prices). This year, they've stepped it up a notch and are claiming that it's illegal to even link to a site that has such content.
