Just Posted! Canon EOS 50D Sample Gallery

Just posted! We've now got a full production Canon EOS 50D and over the weekend produced a quick sample gallery to add to our preview of this 15 megapixel update to the EOS 40D. We're still waiting for a production quality copy of the new EF-S 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS lens; we'll add samples from it as soon as we've got one.

Just Posted! Olympus E-520 review

Just posted! Our review of the Olympus E-520. Olympus refreshed its upper-entry-level DSLR, the E-510, to include more focusing options in live view, a wider range of image stabilization modes and the addition of wireless flash control. Are these changes enough to keep the E-520 competitive in what has become a very crowded sector of the digital camera market?

Just posted! Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM lens review

Just posted! Our new lens review of Sigma's latest baby, the 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM. This optic brings the classic 50mm focal length bang up to date, incorporating ultrasonic focusing for all camera mounts, and the use of an aspherical element for reduced aberrations. Serving dual purpose as a 'normal' lens on 35mm full-frame and a short 'portrait' telephoto on APS-C, the fast 50mm is a great complement to the ubiquitous slow kit zooms, but does the Sigma offer any compelling advantages over the camera manufacturers' own versions, or is it a case of too little, too late?

First shots from production-level Canon 50D posted!

UPDATE 10/03/08: First Test Shots posted! Click on the Samples tab for all the images we've shot so far, including links to select RAW files. Stay tuned for more Canon 50D test images coming soon!

Palin's private e-mail hacked, posted to 'Net

The activist group called "anonymous," best known for its jousts with the Church of Scientology, has apparently hacked into the private Yahoo e-mail account of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for vice president. Contents of that account, including two sample e-mails, an index of messages and Palin family photos, have been posted by the whistleblower site Wikileaks, which contends that they constitute evidence that Palin has improperly used her private e-mail to shield government business from public scrutiny, an issue that had already been raised by others.

The new model replaces the K100D and comes with a higher sensor resolution, a larger screen and a dust reduction system. Are these upgrades enough to let the K200D stand its ground in a fiercely competitive segment of the market? Find out after the link.

BlackBerry Kickstart specs appear on Expansys retailer site

Back in April, the Boy Genius Report unveiled the BlackBerry Kickstart that still has not yet been officially announced by RIM. The Kickstart is unusual due to the clamshell flip form factor that is popular with American consumers. Phonescoop discovered that international retailer and importer, Expansys, has posted all the specifications on the BlackBerry 8220 (aka Kickstart). There is no pricing or availability information yet posted.

Ryan Block's last day as Engadget editor-in-chief ends with 1 year update on the state of Palm

Ryan Block is ending his role as editor-in-chief at Engadget to pursue a new gadget site opportunity with long-time buddy Peter Rojas and I wish them both the best of luck and look forward to seeing what they come up with. As a fitting end to his role at Engadget, Ryan posted an update to his open letter to Palm that he posted last year. His 2007 letter gave lots of unsolicited advice to Palm and CEO Ed Colligan even responded to the letter. The sad news is that one year later there is very little that shows Palm has changed much and it is tough to keep pulling for the company and hoping they come out of it.Looking through Ryan’s latest article, I have to agree with his comments on the new Treo Pro and you will see this in my review next week.

Announcing Creative Suite 4

Adobe Creative Suite 4 released today and that includes Dreamweaver and Contribute. There are a lot of exciting updates to Dreamweaver and Creative Suite as a whole. There are still the numerous editions, so you'll need to decide which version to buy. There are some significant differences between Dreamweaver CS4 and Dreamweaver CS3. I love the new look of the user interface, especially as now it can switch between different views in both Windows and Macintosh versions. Check that you have the right system requirements and then check out what's new in Dreamweaver CS4. Sue, the About.com Guide to Graphics Software, has posted an overview of what's new in Photoshop. And, Jacci, the About.com Guide to Desktop Publishing, has posted what's new in Adobe InDesign CS4.
