I don't hate the player, and I'm certainly not disappointed with it. I just have a hard time recommending it, unless you know you're willing to spend time with a machine and learn how to really manipulate it, as opposed to going on intuition. As silly as this is, I will be happy with this player and even happier to buy the next COWON player that takes the iAUDIO 7's place. Because for all the stupid mistakes that they made with their UI and the layout, the function of the player, with regards to music, is perfect.

Since the birth of the iPod in 2001, Apple has released generation after generation of new iPods packed with exciting feature updates. The problem is that your not-so-old iPod probably feels like it's drifted into obsolescence. Sure they both still play music, but take a look at a first gen iPod next to an iPod touch and it's not hard to understand where I'm coming from. Rather than pony up for a shiny new MP3 player, consider installing the open-source MP3 player firmware Rockbox on your current player first. Rockbox just hit a new release, and it's never been easier to supercharge your MP3 player, from iPods and irivers to Archos and SanDisk players.

When loading media into Macromedia Flash Player 6, the media will continue to load even if Macromedia Flash Player 6 makes additional requests for media (i.e. .swf, .jpg or .mp3 files), or if the user leaves the web page. This issue only occurs in the ActiveX version of Macromedia Flash Player available for Microsoft Internet Explorer on Microsoft Windows platforms.

Dell may soon release a new MP3 player, but having traveled down the MP3 player road before without success, what makes Dell so confident about its new offering? Experts say if Dell offers connectivity to free or subscription content with its new MP3 player, and if it sports a killer interface, it may give Apple's iPod some competition.

When your country builds 70% of the world's electronic toys, it's pretty easy to to come up with some interesting commemerative items, for say, the Olympics. In this case, Chinese workers put their $40-a-month efforts into an MP3 player shaped like the birds nest inspired Bejing stadium. The Bejing MP3 offers a choice of capacity ranging from 1GB to 4GB, handles the usual MP3/WMA combo, and has a small LCD display. Otherwise, it is a simple bare bones player. Oh wait, did I mention that the unit has a matching speaker? The Bejing Stadium MP3 player is priced cheap enough, $19.99 for the 1GB and $32.56 for the 4GB unit. Another $12.98 gets the matching speaker.

ps3120-3.jpgThe folks at the Criterion Collection know a thing or two about movies. They restore classic films for release on DVD and, starting later this year, Blu-ray. So when they set up their screening rooms, you'd expect them to have some crazy $1,000 Blu-ray player, right? Nope. The Criterion Collection people rock a PlayStation 3 for use as their reference Blu-ray player. If you needed further proof that the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player out there, now you have it. [CNET]

Caught this latest update of the top MP3 player manufacturers from the Wall Street Journal. The provider of the data is, of course, NPD, a group whose figures we take with a grain of salt. No surprise here that Apple is number one in MP3, though with a market share that has grown from two-thirds market share to nearly three-out of four players. SanDisk remains at number two, but hey look...Microsoft's Zune line has moved into number three, albeit with a modest 4% share of the market. Still, that's better that the 2% held by Sony and Creative Labs. We are assuming that NPD is including portables that handle video too, simply because that would otherwise imply that Apple's shuffle, the only audio-only MP3 player in its line, has 71% of the market alone.

I wondered if some Axim users could tell me what they are liking. I feel like I've tried so many and can't find one ( at a reasonable price) that has a very easy to maneuver interface while driving. I bought Resco Audio Recorder a few years ago but it stubbornly refused to let me assign functions to my hardware buttons. They tried to get me buy a new version but this function was promised in the one I bought and its hard to see much of the print anyway. I've been using the Pocketmusic Player from Pocketmind. For some reason the free version just started advertising another version and then after that showed only a grey blank screen. Reinstallation changed nothing. They offer a bundle but I don't need "OGG, WMA Player for Pocket PC with Winamp skins support, Playlist Organizer, Bookmark features".
