Redwood City, Calif.-based Qik is increasingly targeting the mass market with its mobile live video streaming technology, and today it is doing so by expanding the number of handsets it supports to include some BlackBerry phones, including the Pearl and the new Bold. âWhat we are doing is enabling all mainstream audience to use Qik,â said Bhaskar Roy Qik’s co-founder and VP of Product Development. Roy said they now support around 70 phones. They started with high-end Nokia (NYSE: NOK) phones that run Symbian operating system, and Windows Mobile phones built by HTC, and just last week it expanded to Nokia and Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) phones that run Symbian’s Series 40. Now security researchers say cell phones, and not just PCs, are the next likely conscripts into the automated armies. The mobile phone as zombie computer is one possibility envisioned by security researchers from Georgia Tech in a new report coming out Wednesday. The report identifies the growing power of cell phones to open a new avenue of attack for hackers. Of particular concern is that as cell phones get more computing power and better Internet connections, hackers can capitalize on vulnerabilities in mobile-phone operating systems or Web applications. Botnets, or networks of infected or robot PCs, are the weapons of choice when it comes to spam and so-called denial of service attacks, in which computer servers are overwhelmed with Internet traffic to shut them down.

While it's true that more and more phones can surf the Web, it's also true that many mobile phones have only a limited ability to show much of the Web's best content. Videos that run in Adobe Flash Players, such as those by the New York Times, CNN, and Technology Review, and Flash-heavy websites simply don't work on many phones due to the software being incompatible with hardware. Today, in an effort to bring more of the Web to mobile devices, Adobe and microchip maker ARM, which powers 90 percent of mobile phones worldwide, have announced a collaboration to ensure that Adobe's software runs well on future ARM devices.

Triggerfish are cell-tower spoofing devices that induce cell phones to give up their location and other identifying information, without recourse to any cell carrier. "Courts in recent years have been raising the evidentiary bar law enforcement agents must meet in order to obtain historical cell phone records that reveal information about a target's location.
