Philips CEO says needs to "right size" in some mkts

NEW DELHI, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Dutch conglomerate Philips Electronics needs to "right size" in some markets and is shifting resources to developing countries, its chief executive said on Friday. "We have to right size our workforce and we are proactively doing that," Gerard Kleisterlee told reporters in the Indian capital. "As any company, we also at this moment are very tight... I cannot exclude that." Kleisterlee said Philips had no plans for across the board job cuts but was shifting resources to developing countries from developed countries. Philips last month posted sharply lower third-quarter core profit, missing forecasts, partly hurt by its normally resilient healthcare unit as orders in the United States slowed due to the financial crisis.

Concateno plc, provider of drug and alcohol testing programmes, and Royal Philips Electronics have announced an innovative handheld drugs-of-abuse detection device. Concateno-Philips pioneering system will make testing for drugs such as cocaine and heroin quicker, simpler and easier enabling immediate point-of-care drug test results, similar to current alcohol tests. Taiwan market: Philips to launch first Blu-ray player
