Palm Treo Pro Details Leaked on Web Site

A glimpse of the new Palm Treo Pro was uploaded -- and quickly removed from -- Palm's Web site. Bloggers were on the scoop, and posted pictures and specs of the Palm Treo Pro long after Palm removed the Treo Pro info from its Web site. Palm's new Treo Pro will reportedly use Windows Mobile OS, instead of Palm's rumored next-gen Palm OS.

Palm's Grand Plan to Save the Brand Barely a Plan At All

Palm is in a tough place right now, with a staid reputation, a decade-old OS and a line of phones that are all, well, sort of boring. The New York Times ran a piece today charting Palm's revitalization plans, which are being carried out under the guidance of CEO Ed Colligan and Apple vet Jon Rubinstein, and they aren't altogether inspiring. Sure, there's always Palm OS 2, but this piece seems to imply (not surprisingly) that we might not see that until the middle of next year. And from the looks of it, Palm's troubles may run deeper than that.

Palm Handheld Stylus & Pen Multipack

You use your Palm device daily, but without a stylus to control your operations, getting the simplest task done on your device can turn into a headache. Made for palmOne handheld devices, the Palm Handheld Stylus Multipack ($14.99; www.bestbuy.com) comes with three replacement styli made from Tungsten. The pack also comes with replacement quills and is compatible with Palm Tungsten E2 and Palm TX.

Palm SDHC beta available

PalmPowerups reports good news for many Palm users. Treo and Centro users can already access SDHC cards allowing storage all the way to 32GB currently. However, other Palm users have been left out in the cold since the Palm OS for those devices has been limited to SD cards only. And that means 2GB maximums. PalmPowerups has released a free beta driver to allow these Palm devices to access SDHC cards. In addition to the ability to use larger memory cards, users will experience faster access, and card access will not shut off in low battery conditions.

Palm Treo Pro: Definitely Not The Same Old Palm Phone

Palm's Treo Pro was announced today, and we just got one for ourselves. The most noticeable thing about it is how small and light and shiny it is for a Palm phone. As a comparison, it sits between the BlackBerry Curve and the iPhone in terms of size. Could this be the king of the WinMo phones?

Palm Treo Pro Revealed (Best Looking Palm Ever)

Wow, check out the Treo Pro, previously thought to be the Treo 850. It's safe to say Palm is plunging ahead with the Centro's industrial design, but the stark (glossy?) black and white color scheme with the phone/end orbs make it slick, rather than kiddie cool. Unfortunately, the Palm OS (new or othewise) for is nowhere in sight, just Windows Mobile. Here's a shot of the back, too:

Palm Treo 755p for Verizon gets update

Palm has posted a ROM update on its web site for the Verizon Palm Treo 755p. Precise details of what the update fixes aren't listed but Palm says "this software update is a tune-up that improves the phone application, stability and device usability."

Palm Treo 800w Released on Sprint

Palm Treo 800w on SprintPalm today formally announced the Treo 800w smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition. The device is available now at Sprint stores and online at Palm.com starting at $249. The Treo 800w is the first Palm smartphone to include a number of new advanced features such as integrated Wi-Fi, EvDO Rev A high speed data and GPS technology.

Palm Announces Treo Pro

According to Palm's press release, the Treo Pro will be available in September in Europe(2) through Vodafone (from free to EUR 399 with contract) and O2 (pricing is available from O2 direct sales and online business stores), and in Australia through Telstra (from free with contract). It will be available in the United States in the fall through the Palm online store (http://www.palm.com/store) as well as select Internet, retail and enterprise resellers for a suggested retail price of $549. The U.S. version is unlocked and unsubsidized, giving end users the flexibility to simply insert their existing active SIM card and immediately start using their Treo Pro without a new contract.

Palm gets stylish with Treo Pro

The leaked pic of the Palm Treo Pro - is it the real deal?Palm’s smart phones aren’t generally regarded as the pinnacle of sexy design, but that could all change with the firm’s next device. The Treo Pro (that’s the rumoured name) retains a classic Palm look - but kicks the style up a few notches.

Palm Treo 800w, Unofficially from Sprint

Surprisingly Sprint has gone on to sell the Palm Treo 800w without any proper announcements. Palm hasnt announced anything official too which is weird. Apparently Sprint stores have been selling the Treo 800w on an unofficial level whatever that means. It has been confirmed that this Palm smartphone will carry GPS WiFi and EVDO Rev. A. The 800w will have a 320x320 screen a 2 megapixels camera and a full QWERTY keyboard. All that packed inside a thinner design. Since this han

Palm OS compatibility now so close we can smell it

StyleTap have now confirmed that their Palm OS emulation system is now in private beta for Symbian OS - I didn't get an invite into this stage, but by applying to be a beta tester, you might be lucky. After a short while, it will be opened up to all beta testers, etc. The significance of StyleTap is that there are still many people in the world who are hanging onto ancient Palm handhelds and Treos because they depend on one or more specific Palm OS-only apps - StyleTap will help them move fairly seamlessly onto S60 and Symbian.

Palm: Delaying The Inevitable Or Back In The Game?

There is an interesting read over at Smart Device Central regarding both Palm's future and storied past. After reading through Jamie's commentary I find myself wondering if he is correct in his speculation about the direction that the company is headed. While it is hard to argue with the cold hard facts Palm's aging, limited OS, questionable decisions and failed products (let's not even get into the whole Foleo debacle) Palm's future is somewhat unwritten at this time. And being an independent company, this leaves their success or demise completely in their, ahem, palms (sorry, couldn't resist).

Sprint and Palm introduce Treo 800w

Sprint and Palm have announced that the new Palm Treo 800w is now available for Sprint subscribers. The Treo 800w runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and includes support for EV-DO Rev A data speeds. According to Sprint, the Treo 800w is “Palm’s most business-friendly phone yet.” Features include:

Could Palm Have a Earnings Surprise in FY Q1?

According to a post by Barron's Eric Savitz, Palm (PALM) might have an upside surprise in its fiscal first quarter (which ends in August). In a research note published on Monday, RBC Capital's Mike Abramsky raises that possibility referencing the company's 10-K filed on Friday. In it, Palm disclosed a Q4 backlog of $238 million, up from $185 million one year earlier, and $121 million two years earlier.

Pimp My Treo 800w - Tips and Tricks on Palm's Newest Windows Mobile Powerhouse

Apparently Palm is taking its newest foray into the Windows Mobile field very seriously (as well they should). They've got a contender on their hands here and it seems that they want to make sure that every last ounce of productivity is squeezed out of it. To ensure that this actually happens, Palm sent out an email to resellers loaded with great information. Though this was not designed for consumer's eyes, if you are new to the device (and Windows Mobile-powered Treos) it is definitely worth the read. In addition to the informative email, Palm has stayed with their Self-Paced Learning Guides and launched a very in-depth resource for the 800w.

Skinner for Palm OS Treo 650/700p/755p/Centro (CDMA) Updated

I just read over at mytreo.net that Skinner for the Palm OS Treo 650, 700p, 755p, and Palm Centro (CDMA) has been updated to version 3.6. This version supports the Palm Centro CDMA version ONLY.

Past Helio/Sidekick designer reworking Palm...

One of the most prominent phone interface designers is now working for Palm for its next operating system, Engadget confirms in a hunt for new information. Matias Duarte, who designed much of the interface behind the Danger Sidekick and later moved on to Helio's custom interface, is now known through checks with sources and Palm itself to be a Senior Director in Palm's Human Interface and User Experience design group. The new executive quietly left his former post at Helio for the new position nearly two years ago in September 2007.

The Motley Fool Paints A Pale View of Palm's Stock

The Motley Fool web site has posted a new article by Tim Beyers to its Investing section entitled "Palm Will Burn Your Portfolio". In short, the article pulls no punches when discussing Palm's stumbles over the past several years and simply calls Palm "The worst stock in the world". After delving further into the article to reach beyond the topic of stock performance, Beyers' piece goes onto paint a dismal picture for the handheld pioneer that essentially jump-started the entire modern PDA/smartphone sector in 1996. Also found within the article is a smattering of undated Gartner marketshare numbers to back up the article's tone.

Pity the Fool... Fool.com's Beyer Weighs in on Palm

Fairness doctrine doesnt usually apply to blog entries. But when it comes to talking about Palm, I guess it is appropriate to offer equal time for opposing views. The other day, I talked about the Barrons article where RBC Capital's Mike Abramsky spoke positively about Palms Q1 earnings. Tim Beyer at Motley Fool (www.fool.com) certainly had an opposing take in his post titled Palm Will Burn Your Portfolio that appeared on Wednesday, July 30.

Ryan Block's last day as Engadget editor-in-chief ends with 1 year update on the state of Palm

Ryan Block is ending his role as editor-in-chief at Engadget to pursue a new gadget site opportunity with long-time buddy Peter Rojas and I wish them both the best of luck and look forward to seeing what they come up with. As a fitting end to his role at Engadget, Ryan posted an update to his open letter to Palm that he posted last year. His 2007 letter gave lots of unsolicited advice to Palm and CEO Ed Colligan even responded to the letter. The sad news is that one year later there is very little that shows Palm has changed much and it is tough to keep pulling for the company and hoping they come out of it.Looking through Ryan’s latest article, I have to agree with his comments on the new Treo Pro and you will see this in my review next week.

Palm makes Treo Pro official

Palm on Tuesday ended speculation with the official launch of the Treo Pro. The GSM smartphone is Palm's first to support tri-band 3G over HSDPA, allowing it faster Internet speeds not only in North America and Europe but also places such as Japan and Korea. It also marks the first significant redesign of GSM Treos in years and has a new, sleeker design that incorporates a flush touchscreen and a button to quickly switch its built-in Wi-Fi on and off.
