Seinfeld-Microsoft Pairing Finds Critics Online

NEW YORK As befits a story pairing a big celebrity with a big corporation, scores of bloggers took to their keyboards last Thursday to weigh in on -- and largely inveigh against -- the ad team of Microsoft and Jerry Seinfeld. After dusting off their favorite one-liners from Seinfeld's old sitcom, many reached the same basic conclusion: that picking a TV star whose fame peaked more than a decade ago seemed like a pretty backward-looking move for a supposedly forward-looking company.

Best Buy's $10 BlueTooth Headset Pairing Service Includes Finger Pointing

"See what it's come to Bluetooth SIG? Headset-to-cellphone pairing is so utterly baffling to average consumers that they are now handing over a Hamilton at Best Buys in California (in support of the new hands-free calling law) just to avoid the procedure. Eight years after the launch of the world's first Bluetooth headset from Ericsson, this is where we're at."

Seinfeld- Microsoft Pairing Finds Critics Online

In the interactive world, we have a discipline called User Experience, or UX for short. We've got a whole department of people that thinks about it.

Video: Defcon - Where feds and hackers rub elbows

It’s an unlikely pairing: security officials and underground hackers. Every year, they make peace and share information at Defcon, Black Hat’s sister conference. CNET’s Kara Tsuboi reports from the 16th annual event that begins in Las Vegas this weekend.

Microsoft's Selection of Seinfeld Draws Criticism

National Sinfonia Orchestra

The concert, under the patronage of President Prof George Maxwell Richards, represents the third pairing of this celebrated pianist and Trinidad’s foremost symphonic orchestra.

Wuala Uses Java to Make Online Storage Social

First there was the failure of MediaMax/TheLinkUp, which was based on the idea of pairing online storage with social networking. In its wake comes Wuala, a new service from Zurich-based Caleido that pairs a similar plan with some unique technologies and capabilities.

According to LucasArts, the game features an exclusive DS story which expands the Clone Wars series. It also enables you to create your own personalised Jedi teams by pairing up Jedi Masters and Padawans. So Anakin Skywalker is able to fight alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano wth Mace Windu.

Sony and Others Form TransferJet Consortium to Make Short-Range Wireless Tech

Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba JVC, Kodak, Hitachi and a bunch more companies have today announced that they're forming the Transferjet consortium to develop an "interoperable wireless transfer technology." Sounding like a challenge to Bluetooth, Transferjet will apparently operate at a theoretical 560 Mbps rate. Plus it could allow pairing as simply as touching two devices together: your camera could display pics on TV simply by sitting it atop the screen. Sounds like a great consumer solution, but since the consortium has yet to define specs, it'll be a while until the project bears fruit. With big players like this aboard though, other wireless data systems must be feeling the pressure. Press release below.

Zetasizer Nano helps establish size independence in DNA driven nanoparticle structuring

A research team led by Dr Oleg Gang at the Brookhaven Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) in New York is using the Zetasizer Nano particle characterization system from Malvern Instruments in ground-breaking work that has demonstrated successful DNA-guided formation of ordered 3-D crystalline structures. DNA's natural ability to self-assemble according to pre-programmed genetic codes within its pairing bases makes it the perfect architectural device for construction of novel crystalline structures. The ability to engineer such 3-D structures enables the production of functional materials that take advantage of the unique properties that may exist at the nanoscale - for example, enhanced magnetism, improved catalytic activity, or new optical properties.

Dawson spins web around Middlesex

Liam Dawson doesn't turn 19 until next March, but an impressively composed performance for Hampshire gave his side a tight 26-run win over Middlesex at Lord's. Hampshire, who batted first, were stumbling at 61 for 4 before Dawson combined with Sean Ervine in a counterattacking partnership worth 100. Ervine stole the show with a brilliant 103 from just 76 balls, coping confidently with Middlesex's spin pairing of Murali Kartik and Shaun Udal, but Dawson's 45 from 59 represented an innings of growing maturity from a highly regarded young allrounder. Chasing 229, Middlesex lost a couple of early wickets but Andrew Strauss set them on course with an authoritative fifty, combining nicely with Eoin Morgan. Until, that is, Dawson found one to bite on Strauss who completely misread the line and was trapped in front for 71.

"Tea with Artists" Tea Time at Oatlands - Sunday, July 27

It's no secret that our favorite spot in Italy is Montalcino. This lovely hill town is home to our favorite wine: Brunello and so many friends we have made in our pretty much annual visit. We are honorary members of two of the towns 4 quartieri: Pianello & Travaglio. This menu will feature the food we have come to love so much. Your choices will include Crostini Toscani, Panzanella and Scotiglia (a hunter's stew). The four course meal will be $48.00 per person with a wine pairing available for an additional $30 per person. The Montalcino Tasting menu is available all evening long, either at the bar, a table or on our patio, weather permitting. There is a vegetarian selection for every course. Dino is located at 3435 Connecticut Avenue in Cleveland Park.

Monster Jam Xbox 360 Review

If you were to ask me to list my all time favorite arcade racers, there will be one inclusion that you may not have expected - Monster Truck Madness. While it was never the most technically sound racing game made, it will always hold a special place for me as one of the first I truly enjoyed as a youngster. However despite the fame of that series, and despite the fact there is something about monster trucks and video games which just go well together, it has never been an overly successful pairing, with mostly only low budget generic efforts to speak of. This trend is set to continue with Activision's and Torus Games' recently released Monster Jam for the Xbox 360, because while it seems to offer what you'd expect from a monster truck game, it is overall a very generic racer that doesn't really standout.

Selling Online with Drupal e-Commerce

Michael J. Ross writes "Many Web developers wish to create e-commerce sites that also support collaborative editing of content, community forums, and other features that can increase traffic to the sites. But most shopping cart products do not include those capabilities, or, if such third-party add-ons exist, they may be quite limited in functionality. Similarly, most if not all content management systems (CMSs) lack native e-commerce capabilities. Yet that barrier is being overcome, because a handful of e-commerce modules have been created for the most popular CMSs. Perhaps the most promising pairing, at this time, is Drupal and the e-Commerce module — a combination covered in the book Selling Online with Drupal e-Commerce by Michael Peacock.
