Amazon Launches "Frustration-Free Packaging"

mallumax notes Amazon's new Frustration-Free Packaging initiative. Over several years the retailer hopes to convince many of its suppliers to offer consumer-friendlier packaging. It's starting with just 19 products from Mattel, Fisher-Price, Microsoft, and Transcend. Until this program spreads to more products, better get one of these (ThinkGeek and Slashdot share a corporate overlord). From Amazon's announcement: "The Frustration-Free Package is recyclable and comes without excess packaging materials such as hard plastic clamshell casings, plastic bindings, and wire ties. It's designed to be opened without the use of a box cutter or knife and will protect your product just as well as traditional packaging. Products with Frustration-Free Packaging can frequently be shipped in their own boxes, without an additional shipping box.

Amazon to cut down on packaging

Amazon has taken initiative in taking the necessary steps in producing a cleaner environment, starting with its packaging. Amazon promises to help remove the annoyances that customers have with their over packaging, by cutting down the molded foam, wire ties, and clamshell plastics. The company spoke about the frustrated feedback from consumers about the clamshell packaging. The company said they would focus on reducing the amount of plastic-coated hard wire ties, and "clamshell" packaging that the company produces

Amazon intros Frustration-Free Packaging initiative...

Online retailer Amazon on Wednesday announced it will launch what it calls Frustration-Free Packaging in an effort to help customers free their newly purchased products from their packages. The first products Amazon will focus on include ones enclosed in hard plastic clamshell cases and ones secured with plastic-coated wire ties. In the US, 19 products with such packaging will begin shipping from partnering manufacturers that include Fisher-Price, Mattel, Microsoft and Transcend. Not only will the new packaging ease the pains of getting products out, it will also be easier on the environment, as there will be less of it.

Amazon Recognizes That People Hate Annoying Packaging

Two years ago, around this time, we wrote a post entitled This Holiday Season, All I Want Is A Package That Opens Easily, noting how annoying some consumer packaging is. We were especially critical of the so-called "blister packs" or plastic clamshell packaging that is a source of not just frustration, but injuries to many as they struggle to open them. Apparently, Amazon has finally decided it's time to do something about this and has announced a new initiative for "frustration-free packaging." As Jeff Nolan notes, this is an example of a company recognizing that what's good for customers is good for the company.

Well, those days may slowly disappear, thanks in part to a new initiative headed up by Amazon.com.
