Google optimizes search results for iPhone...

Google has refined the appearance of its search page when visiting from an iPhone or iPod touch, an announcement reveals. Results are now formatted in a similar manner to other Google services, with a blue navigation bar, and vertically-aligned text or imagery that eliminates the need to scroll horizontally. Where appropriate, results will automatically bring up maps, as well as larger and more obvious direction and phone call buttons. In the case of multiple listings a Show Map link brings up the new view.

Flash memory is pervasive in modern intelligent devices, for storage of applications, photographs, multimedia and other content. Available flash technologies, however, can force OEMs to make difficult trade-offs between component costs and device longevity. In particular, NAND flash technology comes in two main varieties: Multi-Level Cell (MLC) and Single Level Cell (SLC). The more popular MLC is less expensive in high capacity configurations, but also presents significantly lower erase-cycle endurance than SLC.

Real-time JVM takes on multi-core

Aonix is shipping a symmetric multi-processing (SMP) version of its Linux-compatible real-time Java virtual machine (JVM), targeting multi-core processors running Linux. Offering initial support for Concurrent's RedHawk real-time Linux, "PERC Ultra SMP" optimizes PERC's garbage collection techniques for complex SMP environments, says Aonix.
