Social networking site Bebo has hired Kate Burns to lead its European operation. A former Google UK managing director, Burns joined DailyMotion only four months ago as UK MD. She will join Bebo Europe in the newly created position of vice-president and managing director. She will be responsible for Bebo operations in the UK, Ireland and Poland, and head an expansion plan that will see the site launching in Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the Netherlands in the next quarter. Burns will join Bebo on 4 August, following the promotion of Joanna Shields to the role of president of AOL's newly formed People Networks and chief executive of Bebo.
