Olympic athletes do not have a great track record when it comes to video game appearances. Aside from the official Olympic Games titles, it's a bit rare to see individual stars get their own video game. The last example that comes to mind of a game starring an Olympic athlete is Johnny Moseley's Mad Trix, the rather terrible piece of software that featured one of the worst intros ever, clunky controls, and the ability to constantly ski uphill. Now, it seems that Michael Phelps, the man who dominated the Summer Games twice, is going to be receiving his own game.

Slatterz writes "The IT backbone for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is to be cut. According to the Games' chief integrator, Michele Hyron of Atos Origin, each section of the computing infrastructure will be made more efficient in order to minimise redundant equipment and hopefully reduce energy consumption. Unlike the Beijing Games, the results will be relayed via the public wireless network which will be available in the Olympic Park — this means cutting out the 2,500 results terminals. The team of workers will deliver more than 1,000 servers, 10,000 PCs and 4,000 printers."

But which of them deserves gold? Perhaps it is Baron Cohen, as the only one of the three who has created a bona fide, worldwide big-screen smash. Or perhaps it is Coogan, being the best conventional actor, not reliant on character comedy, and therefore having a career with the greatest potential staying power. But probably on the basis of sheer buzz, trophy silverware, and the remarkable distinction of having been allowed to appear in and script an episode of The Simpsons, Gervais gets top podium position.
