Little Big Planet was heralded as the PlayStation 3 game that would appeal to all demographics and divert some of the mainstream attention towards the PS3 that's currently focused squarely on the Wii. It seemed like it was on track to do just that and be a huge seller in October. Then came the controversy surrounding lyrics in the game's soundtrack that included quotes from the Quran which resulted in a recall and subsequent delay, pushing the game back from its October 21 release date in the U.S. to October 27. While that might have not been a big deal in and of itself, the recall most certainly cost Sony a fair amount of money and also likely hurt the game's October sales.

ComScore released its October search-engine market share figures for the U.S. last night. Overall search volume grew 20.1 percent year-over-year to 12.6 billion queries, a decline in growth from the 25.5 percent pace we saw in September, but still quite healthy. Correspondingly, the annual growth in Google’s (GOOG) U.S. search volume slowed from 38.6 percent in September to 29.6 percent in October. Google still managed to eke out an overall market share gain of 0.2 point to 63.1 percent.

We've put enough time between us and the month of October that we can once again take a look at how videogame sales did that month thanks to today's release of NPD sales data. Beginning as always with hardware, the big winner this month was Wii in terms of both number sold and increase from last month. Though the order remains the same as in September, the Xbox 360 also saw a small boost in number sold. Every other system dropped, including a considerable 40,000 less for the PlayStation 3 despite multiple major software releases (including two console exclusives) in October. Perhaps global economic problems mixed with Sony's lack of a price drop is really starting to affect sales of the system? Take a look at the numbers below and decide for yourself.
