The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History has received a $15 million gift from the Roger and Victoria Sant Founders’ Fund of the Summit Fund of Washington to support the new Ocean Hall and related programs and outreach activities. The exhibition hall, scheduled to open Sept. 27, will be named the Sant Ocean Hall in honor of the donor. The fund will be used for updating and maintaining the exhibition and supporting ocean education.

During Microsoft's E3 Keynote today one thing which stood out was that Star Ocean 4 didn't carry the heading stating it was a timed or full exclusive on Xbox 360 whereas The Last Remnent and Infinate Undiscovery did. Now this does suggest that Star Ocean 4 isn't an Xbox 360 exclusive after all. However for now class this as a rumor, until official word is given.

On Friday, NASA launched the Ocean Surface Topography Mission/Jason 2 satellite into orbit to begin a detailed study of ocean currents, sea-surface height, and surface topology. Scientists hope to use the data gathered by Jason 2 in order to better understand weather patterns and global warming. Further details about the mission objectives (PDF) are also available. Quoting NASA's press release: "Combining ocean current and heat storage data is key to understanding global climate variations. OSTM/Jason 2's expected lifetime of at least three years will extend into the next decade the continuous record of these data started in 1992 by NASA and the French space agency Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales, or CNES, with the TOPEX/Poseidon mission.
