RICHMOND, VA —Holiday greeting cards will have a home grown feel this year if the contemporary Holiday Nutcrackers stamps from the U.S. Postal Service adorn your mailings. On October 23rd the Postal Service releases the contemporary and traditional Christmas holiday stamps for sale at local Post Offices. The 2008 Christmas traditional stamp was created from Botticelli’s “Virgin and Child with the Young John the Baptist” painting. The 2008 contemporary Christmas stamp features four nutcrackers which are photographs of actual figures custom-made by local artist Glenn Crider of Mechanicsville, Va.Â

Ballet Auction Offering More Than Just Sugar Plums

Looking for a holiday gift for your favorite ballet fan who has already seen “The Nutcracker” several dozen times? American Ballet Theater is offering a few more original (if a bit pricier) options in an online auction. Beginning Monday, Ballet Theater will auction several items and opportunities, from limited-edition photographs and signed pointe shoes to backstage visits and dinners with soloists and principal dancers, including Nina Ananiashvili, who will give her final performances with Ballet Theater in the spring. Bidding will take place online, at www.abt.cmarket.com, and continue until Dec. 15. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Ballet Theater.
