I mentioned that Red Hat, Novell and Sun Microsystems now have such incredibly low market capitalizations that the independent existence of these open source leaders is threatened. The situation is substantially worse a few days later, with Red Hat's share price more than 20 percent lower than it was when I wrote the original post, starting to look like a penny stock. Some readers have suggested that Red Hat, in particular, is a nebulous entity that represents "nothing in the end." Really?

There's nothing like downturn to spur innovation. A rash of new product and feature updates have recently been flung upon the search marketing industry, some better than others. This is nothing new: Canned food, Jeeps and the microwave oven also were born during a time of duress. The French government issued a prize for the inventor of an efficient and effective food preservation system when supplies were low; the Jeep was developed for a wartime bid; and the microwave oven was a chance discovery that helped a firm survive by diversifying when military orders came to an end. The question for today is, which of the following innovations will stick?

Los Angeles Times: There's nothing more discouraging for the weary air traveler than to arrive at the airport only to remember that his iPod contains nothing but 1950s polka music. How will he survive that overseas flight? Previously, the only solution to this quandary was for him to download new songs using Wi-Fi on his computer and then transfer them to his iPod (unless he has a phone that lets him purchase songs from it). But now, travelers can go to InMotion kiosks at 20 airports across the country (including LAX) and buy digital music, then plug their iPods or other devices into the kiosk and download the tunes.

Is java really supports multiple inheritance using interfaces ? Because if we implement multiple interfaces in a class then we are inheriting nothing from parent class, because nothing concrete in interface. So can we consider it as inheritance in pure OO term ?

"Pride and Glory" is a never-ending parade of cops roughing up and interrogating suspects and witnesses linked to a very convoluted crime. Drugs, money, corrupt cops, the whole gambit. Nothing wrong with familiar material if it’s done well, but nothing is fresh in this movie. Not even the talented Edward Norton can bring something to the table, but Jon Voight and Colin Farrell manage to register in a few scenes.

A sign of the season, as reliable as the first frost or the turning foliage, is the proliferation of dead, abused or endangered children on movie screens. It sometimes seems that you can’t make a serious film these days without one. Nothing cranks up the dramatic intensity quite as effectively as a child in peril — see Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” opening Friday (review on Page C1), for the latest evidence of this Hollywood axiom — and nothing seems to make ambitious actors happier than parental grief.

For years, video game haters like Jack Thompson have tried to use bogus claims about video games to absolve criminals of responsibility for their crimes. It's really rather sickening, that rather than getting criminals to stand up and accept responsibility, they try to blame some video game. However, with China now embracing the concept of internet addiction, it appears that an accused killer is now trying to similarly pin the blame for poisoning his parents on his online video game addiction. These stories really have nothing to do with video games, and everything to do with criminals trying to skirt responsibility for their actions by throwing the blame on video games that had nothing to do with the actual crimes.

netbuzz writes "Meeting in Minneapolis this week, the Internet engineering community is debating whether to aggressively fashion and apply fixes for the so-called Kaminsky bug in the DNS discovered this summer, or to simply let its threat stand as motivation for all to move with greater speed toward DNSSEC, which is considered the best long-term security solution. Problem with the latter approach is that DNSSEC has been in the works for a decade already, no one is confident it will be universally embraced, and the Kaminsky flaw is causing real problems today.

On the iPhone, the Default.png image provides a splash screen that displays whenever you launch an application. Developer circles have recently been buzzing about a workaround to let applications update their Default.png images dynamically, the way that Apple does. The challenge lay in modifying the bundle contents without breaking the digital signature that assures that the application is untouched. A symbolic link provided a way to create a connection between the signed app bundle and an always updating Default.png image.
