AT&T, Lenovo partner on cheaper 3G for notebooks...

Carrier AT&T and PC builder Lenovo say they have collaborated on a project meant to drive down the cost of 3G broadband on notebooks. Buyers of Lenovo notebooks in the ThinkPad T, X and SL series will get a free 30 days of AT&T's DataConnect service, if they sign up for a two-year contract; more critically, models with the necessary Ericsson module will not cost any more than a regular version, which the companies claim will save as much as $150 per computer. The arrangement is being targeted mainly at small- to medium-sized businesses.

Lenovo to Allow Locking Down ThinkPad Notebooks by Text Message.

Lenovo Group plans to introduce a new feature to its ThinkPad lineup of notebooks that will allow to lock the personal computers if they are stolen or lost in order to protect sensitive information. The new feature is a yet another option of ThinkPad laptops that is likely to appeal to businesses or government organizations.

Seagate, McAfee, Dell to provide notebooks

NEW DELHI, INDIA: To combat growing threats to mobile information, Seagate is now shipping its notebook PC hard drives, of up to 320GB of capacity, to the worldwide distribution channel, with 500GB models coming soon. Additionally, Dell is now shipping a notebook with a 160GB self-encrypting hard drive. McAfee is set to provide software for the enterprise-wide management of notebooks with Seagate Secure hard drives.

Because of the growing interest in Linux, the quantity of installation guides has increased rapidly during the past year -- more than any other year since TuxMobil's inception in 1997.

More Linux than Windows on Notebooks in 2009?

InformationWeek reported Friday that Linux will be on more PCs next year than Windows will. Pointing to a blog post by Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin, writer Antone Gonsalves notes, however, that Linux won’t necessarily be the primary operating system on these computers.
