Movie Playback on the BlackBerry Bold Using Badaboom

It seems like yesterday that I wrote the article on how to play DVD movies on the Palm Treo 650 Smartphone, but it has been two and a half years since that was posted. Back then the process of putting a movie on your phone took days to figure out on your own and the image quality wasn't that great. On top of all that, you had to download and install plugins and a movie player to get it to work. The end result was a movie that played on your phone, but the Palm Treo 650 had a 320 x 320 pixel transflective display that wasn't too impressive.

Accessory Kits Convert DSLRs into Movie Cameras

Zacuto makes baseplates for movie cameras onto which can be bolted, strapped and hung all manner of accessories, from shoulder mounts to counter-balances to a rather fetching set of handlebars. The new kits, however, are designed to work with the new breed of movie-shooting DSLRs, specifically the Nikon D90 and the upcoming Canon 5D MkII.

iTunes Store adopts Movie of the Week sale

Apple has introduced a new discount option in the iTunes Store, found within the Movies section. Joining the company's $0.99 Rental of the Week option, the company is now selling a Movie of the Week for $5, along with nine other movies priced at the same cost per title. The debut Movie of the Week is James Cameron's Terminator 2; some other $5 movies include Total Recall, The Karate Kid and St. Elmo's Fire.

Disney Giving Away Free iPhone Game To Promote Movie

Reader Terry Westley points us to yet another example of how companies are recognizing that content is advertising. Disney has apparently released a free iPhone game that's fun on its own, but which also serves to help promote an upcoming movie release. While some will dismiss this as just being a cheap way of advertising, you have to wonder what happens when movie makers start making these sorts of games really, really good. Then what happens to game developers who think they can get away with charging for their mobile phone games? Suddenly it becomes a lot harder to support that model if there are other businesses that are using a model where, the more games that are given away for free, the more it helps the rest of their business.

Long live the small art film

ritics are a small movie's best friends - and vice-versa. Films that arrive in a city without TV commercials or print ads, often months or years after their international premieres, rely on reviewers to get out the word that they've landed at a local art house. If the movie is good, a positive notice from a local critic can help it win another week of life. If the movie is bad, a hometown slam may rouse more attention than a review picked up from another city, which can give a film the odor of something canned and left too long on the shelf.

D3Publisher To Bring Focus Features And Laika's Coraline To Playstation 2

Based on the exciting new movie Coraline – the first-ever stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3-D – from Focus Features and LAIKA, the Coraline videogame is coming from D3Publisher (D3P). The game will let players take on the role of the adventurous heroine Coraline and interact with the wondrous characters from the movie while navigating the scheming Other Mother’s web of deceit in a fantastical adventure through two distinct and interactive worlds. Coraline is slated to ship to North American retail stores for the PlayStation 2 in January 2009 to coincide with Focus’ nationwide release of the movie on February 6, 2009.

Soul Men

"Soul Men" is simultaneously not a very good movie and yet a touching experience at the same time, due only to it being Bernie Mac’s last movie (he passed away in August of this year). Though its quality and lack of originality is questionable, it’s not a sour or unpleasant movie to watch not unless you are totally turned off by blasphemy. What is amusing about Mac’s characters, all of his characters, was that he is always a foul character trying to be composed and polite and good but keeps getting tripped up by belligerent guys that provoke him to blow steam off his whistle.

Do More With your Digital Photos

We know how many pictures you have hidden away on your hard drive. After all, we have just as many. It’s time to put those memories to good use and share them with the people we love. Rather than haphazardly clicking through photos whenever family visits, prepare a creative story with your pictures by making a slideshow with Windows Movie Maker or photo and movie-making software. By creating a slideshow or movie, you can choose the best photos that tell why the moment was so special. Adding text and music can add to the emotion of the story, and you’ll no doubt receive praise for your imagination and thoughtfulness.

Movie museum: In tracking boxoffice business and Hollywood's ups and downs we focus on the dollars being spent but lose sight of the fact that they really represent people who enjoy movies.

Movie Review: Guy Ritchie returns to his trademark brash form with 'RocknRolla'

For better and for worse, "RocknRolla" is a pretty typical Guy Ritchie movie: intentionally convoluted plotting, eccentric underworld characters, hyperstylized editing and, of course, a killer soundtrack.
