Kontron has announced two new ATX-format embedded motherboards that target "compute-intensive" applications such as image processing. The KTQ45/FLEX and KTQ45/ATXE feature Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Duo processors, dual gigabit Ethernet, 12 USB ports, and five SATA ports, according to the company.

Up to this point, EVGA has exclusively manufactured motherboards based solely on NVIDIA chipsets, but starting next month the company plans to produce their first motherboard that deviates from this formula, opting to produce a board based on Intel's X58 chipset. Dubbed the X58 SLI FTW, the motherboard will ship with 6 DDR3 DIMM slots and support for 2 and 3-Way SLI as well as ATI CrossFireX.

NVIDIA now offers another set of beta ForceWare drivers, which are now up to version 180.43, enabling NVIDIA SLI on Intel X58-based motherboards and offering further improvements in Far Cry 2 performance as described in the accompanying quote from Ubisoft's Louis-Pierre Pharand: "Since we first began working on Far Cry 2 in early 2005, we have used GeForce GPUs to develop the game and worked closely with NVIDIAs excellent engineers. AMD is making a push into the home theatre market with its AMD Live! Initiative. The software runs off of Microsoft’s Vista OS and the Microsoft Media Center and AMD’s Athlon processor and RS-780M chipset make for AMD Live! hardware, which includes integrated ATI display support as well as high performance audio. Display and audio can be delivered via HDMI on most motherboards including the MSI MS-7411, which was provided on the test system from AMD.
