According to the latest E SOURCE market research study, 51% of Internet users in the U.S. and Canada now pay at least one monthly bill online. That represents a substantial increase over the results of the company's 2004 research. At that time, only 33% of Internet users were making online payments. In 2005, the Pew Internet & American Life Project reported a relatively small increase -- around 38% of Internet users were paying a monthly bill online. According to Andrew Heath, director of Customer Satisfaction Services at E SOURCE and one of the new study's authors, "our current finding is important because it indicates a major shift in customer behavior over the past four years." As rumored a couple of months back, Time Warner is starting a trial of metered Internet access. "On Thursday, new Time Warner Cable Internet subscribers in Beaumont, Texas, will have monthly allowances for the amount of data they upload and download. Those who go over will be charged $1 per gigabyte... [T]iers will range from $29.95 a month for... 768 kilobits per second and a 5-gigabyte monthly cap to $54.90 per month for... 15 megabits per second and a 40-gigabyte cap. Beginning this Thursday, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and magazine publisher Future US will launch a new monthly online program on the PlayStation Network called "Qore". Each episode will feature interactive video content that covers PlayStation platform gaming. SCEA is promising Qore will support high-definition display output, and apparently the user interface while viewing will be customizable as well. Of course, Qore will also be home to "interactive advertising" for all your consumerist gamer needs.

It's official: O2 and Telefonica users in the UK and Spain will get the iPhone absolutely free if they sign up for a 18-month plan with a $88 monthly cost. But how "free" is free? Future Publishing (LSE: FUTR) has confirmed to us our earlier report it has been licensed to start providing online magazine-type content to Sony’s (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation Network. “Qore”, a monthly digital “program” featuring editorial from Future, will launch on Friday in the US and Future is talking with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) about a UK launch. It will be a premium subscription offering, with both monthly and annual fee structures, though no fees are available yet. The publisher will also sell video, interstitial and contextual ads on the service. Qore will include game demos and previews, tips and developer interviews.
