Chappell calls for a mid-80s-like major review of Oz cricket

SYDNEY (Agencies): Former Aussie Test captain Greg Chappell has said that it was high time that Oz selectors, coaches and high-performance managers sat together to look at the demands on the modern player, as was done in mid-80s when his country faced a tough recession in cricket and West Indies ruled the cricketing world. The review in the mid-1980s, under chairman of selectors Lawrie Sawle, identified Steve Waugh, Ian Healy, Dean Jones and Geoff Marsh who led the team's revival. It followed the retirement of Rod Marsh, Dennis Lillee and Chappell. Like mid-80s, Australia is once again struggling after the retirements of Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath. "We need to sit down as we did 20-odd years ago and look at the types of cricketers we want to rebuild Australian cricket," the Herald Sun quoted Chappell as saying.

Olympus joins mid-range with E-30 DSLR

Olympus today tackled the absence of a mid-range digital SLR in the E-system lineup with the E-30, a step between the entry-level E-520 and the more professional E-3. The 12.3-megapixel camera has the faster and more accurate 11-point autofocus performance of the higher-end E-3, an electronic level to ensure straight landscape shots and image stabilization built into the sensor rather than just the lens. Simultaneously, though, it also carries beginner-oriented features such as face detection and live visual effects dubbed Art Filters.

Olympus adds mid-range SLR, the E-30

Olympus has announced the E-30, which fits into the E-System lineup above the E-520 as a mid-range advanced digital SLR, while the E-3 remains at the top as the flagship Olympus DSLR. Beyond the new Art Filters and Multiple Exposure function, the company says that the E-30 delivers the same high-precision performance and imaging quality demanded by professional photographers who use the E-3, as well as the consumer-friendly features found on the E-520, and several new offerings all its own.

Olympus Joins Mid-Range DSLR Club With The E-30

Though it had the pro-end E-3 and entry-level E-520, Olympus until now had not been offering a mid-level DSLR: but now there's the E-30. The 12.5-megapixel cam mixes up the 11-point autofocus if the E-3, and entry-level functions like face detection and live visual effects—"Art Filters"— to please all sorts of users, and throw in an electronic levelling system to banish wonky horizons, and sensor-shifting image stabilization.

Olympus has announced that a new, Four Thirds-based, 12.3-million-pixel digital SLR called the E-30 will go on sale in mid-January.

Olympus E-30 Mid-Range DSLR Given First Quick Groping

Only yesterday we learned of Olympus's entry to the mid-range DSLR game with the E-30 and now the camera's had its first hands-on over at DPReview. And it seems ok: the team liked the fact that it had many of the features of the pro E-3—like the 2.7-inch 230,000-pixel viewscreen and 1/8000th seconds shutter speed—while being a little smaller and having those "art filters" for real-time image manipulation. The pitch/roll correction system got a thumbs up too, as did its nine aspect ratio options. We'll have to wait for a bigger hands-on to get the full skinny, but it looks promising for now. UBS sees China housing investment to recover in mid-2009

ET Net News Agency, 24 October 2008> UBS' analyst Tao Wang said the China government has started rolling out policy measures to support the property sector, but he thinks these and future initiatives are aimed at promoting housing investment to support growth, not necessarily at reversing the correction in housing prices. Wang thinks additional policies could include to increase government spending to build more economic scale and low-end rental housing, and to encourage more investment in the middle market properties with easier land and credit access. He believes that housing investment is likely to bottom in the first half of 2009, with construction activities starting to recover in mid 2009. (KL)
