Updated Information Regarding Auction Preferred Securities Market Available on MFS Investment Management's Web Site

(MFS) today announced the availability of information on the results of the weekly auctions for the week ending November 28, 2008, that determine the dividend rate payable on the auction rate preferred shares issued by the closed-end funds identified below. The data is posted online at www.mfs.com and can be accessed by clicking on “News & Commentary,” then “News Room,” then “Closed-End Funds Press Releases.” The information pertains to the following MFS closed-end funds:

Banks will meet liquidity needs of MFs, says IBA

In an effort to soothe nerves of the country’s mutual funds (MFs) and the non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), the bankers today assured that they would come forward to support these financial institutions’ funding needs including liquidity to meet redemptions. With an access to additional Rs 40,000 crore of liquidity after the central bank’s slew of liquidity measures yesterday, the public sector banks today said that it is extremely comfortable for the banks to fund the MFs and NBFCs, and also to achieve a higher credit growth during the financial year.

Liquid MFs find favour with banks

MUMBAI: Confidence is slowly returning to the money market, but bankers prefer to keep their fingers crossed. After a long time, banks have resumed investing in liquid schemes of mutual funds (MFs), though selectively. After the collapse of Lehman in September, a number of banks and corporates had pulled out money from MF schemes.

After slashing investments in mutual funds in September amid liquidity crunch, banks have begun to increase their exposure to MFs by parking surplus funds in their schemes, according to Reserve Bank of India data.
