A new study by two University of Rochester psychologists adds color - literally and figuratively - to the age-old question of what attracts men to women. Through five experiments, Andrew Elliot and Daniela Niesta demonstrate that the color red makes men feel more amorous toward women. Most surprisingly, men are unaware of the role the color plays in their attraction.

Jeangreymeester_l I'm a huge fan of the X-Men movie franchise -- well, at least the first two Bryan Singer-directed flicks -- but not so much of The CW's icky Gossip Girl (I know, blasphemy alert). And that's why I'm more than a little perturbed by the news that Josh Schwartz (exec producer of GG, as well as The O.C. and Chuck) will be writing (and possibly directing) the fourth installment of the film franchise, X-Men: First Class, with plans to "inject a next-gen sensibility into the superhero series," according to Variety.

University of Colorado scientists have recently discovered that women carry much more diverse bacteria species on their hands than men, and also larger numbers of them altogether, although they reported washing their hands often. Men exhibited less species and less diversity. A bizarre application for this discovery could be the replacement of fingerprinting with “bacterial-printing”, by analyzing the unique bacteria people leave behind after they touch an object.

Gossip Girl and The OC creator Josh Schwartz is to write a new instalment of the X-Men series that will concentrate on the younger members of the team. The last film grossed just under $500 million worldwide (despite being utterly mediocre) after Bryan Singer handed over the reins to Brett Ratner. The new flick is to be called X-Men: First Class and Fox are toying with the idea of using the gang of tweens from the last film as the core cast; otherwise it'll be a whole new bunch of angst ridden, mutant superheroes dealing with bad guys and hair in strange places. Schwartz has apparently also been offered the chance to direct to film but turned it down - JJ Abrams he is not. No word on returning cast or any other possible helmer yet.

November 2008 Independent research announced today by iStockphoto has revealed significant variations in the way men and women source imagery for business use. Nearly 70% of men take their own images compared to 55% of women and while almost half of men commission photography only a quarter of women choose to do so. Women are more likely to source their imagery from stock photography websites, demonstrating their willingness to shop around when sourcing high quality imagery.

A couple of months ago, we wrote a fairly scathing piece about a new online service called Ask-a-man, a business based around the very flimsy idea that women could learn a lot about the men in their lives from other men. Because all men are the same. And women are thick. Amongst the things we wrote were:

"Soul Men" is simultaneously not a very good movie and yet a touching experience at the same time, due only to it being Bernie Macs last movie (he passed away in August of this year). Though its quality and lack of originality is questionable, its not a sour or unpleasant movie to watch not unless you are totally turned off by blasphemy. What is amusing about Macs characters, all of his characters, was that he is always a foul character trying to be composed and polite and good but keeps getting tripped up by belligerent guys that provoke him to blow steam off his whistle.
