With the troubled global economy everyone is feeling the pinch and all businesses are looking for ways to reduce overheads. This will mean reviewing all expenditure and squeezing as much value out of suppliers as possible. One area where significant savings can be made is on site security. However, reducing the security spend does not need to mean reducing the quality of service. On the contrary, for those companies still using traditional manned security guards and mobile patrols, switching to Robowatch will actually save money and increase the level of security provision.

Google translations can be tricky things, but the site reports that "The iPhone OS v2.2 will be given in circulation on 21 November '08." That could just mean that developers will be getting an advance copy to test against their applications that day, but it could also mean that Apple plans to release the update as of that date.

The Citi bailout program could turn out to have been a watershed events for the markets, but we will not know if this true for several months. Importantly, the government drew a bright red line around Citibank and all of the other institutions named inside that inner circle. That does not mean that future problems will not arise, but it does mean that the government will not allow bear raids to succeed.

However, most borrowers are unlikely to get the best deal because when they decide to apply, they simply go straight to their bank and take whatever is on offer. Even in the current credit crunch environment, there are dozens and dozens of companies offering loans and you'll have plenty of products to choose from. It's worth taking a look at our best buys table and shopping around. A single percentage point in interest could save you thousands over the course of your loan. However, there are pitfalls you'll need to avoid, and questions you need to ask before you make your decision. Term First you need to decide the term you'll want the loan for. Shorter terms mean, obviously, you'll pay the debt back quicker, but they also mean you'll pay less interest overall.

Scientists from the PAMELA (Payload for Antimatter/Matter Exploration and Light-nuclei Astrophysics) orbiting spacecraft have published preliminary results, putting an end to months of speculation about the first direct detection of dark matter. The science team was, in essence, "forced" to publish before they had conclusive results because other scientists "pirated" data from the team. “We wanted to make our final results available to the scientific community once the data analysis was finalised,” PAMELA member Mirko Boezio said in an article in Physicsworld.com. “Given that our preliminary conference data are starting to be used by people, we felt this was a necessary step — not least because it provides a proper reference that correctly acknowledges the whole PAMELA collaboration and is available to the scientific community at

"At the RIPE meeting in Dubai two weeks ago, Google presented results from a study about how IPv6-capable 'ordinary users' are. And the results are surprising. While an earlier study by Arbor Networks showed only 0.0026 percent of all traffic was IPv6 enabled, Google determined that world wide, 0.238 percent of their users' systems have IPv6 enabled and prefer to use IPv6 over IPv4 where possible," Iljitsch van Beijnum reports for Ars Technica.

(InfoWorld Daily Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) With the advent of multicore processors such as the Intel Core Duo, which is now commonplace in PCs, software developers must deal with a new wrinkle -- getting software to be processed across multiple cores -- in order to ensure the maximum performance from their software. But this is much easier said than done, with developers having to tackle issues with concurrency and potential performance bottlenecks. Already, 71 percent of organizations are developing multithreaded applications for multicore hardware, according to a recent IDC survey sponsored by tool vendor Coverity.
