Registrations for the .me top level domain started yesterday afternoon, giving users a new crack at getting a personalised web address. Unlike the recent staggered rollout of the .asia domain, the .me registrations are open to everyone from day one. The .me domain name was previously assigned to Montenegro after the country gained independence in June 2006. However, owing to the widespread potential appeal of the name it is now available for general use. The new domain follows the recent vote by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to allow users to register whatever domain suffix they want for their site.

A friend of mine, this past week, called me on my cell to give me a bad news. "I lost my job," she told me. "What?" I asked. "Yes, the boss called me this morning to inform that the company no longer needs my services. Now I am without a job," she said.

Hi. I am currently a US citizen living in the US. The company I work for is wanting me to move to Germany (Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart) for 3 years to work for our parent company. I am a design engineer with about 5 years of experience. I have been to the area where I will be working and everything is so beautiful and everyone is so nice. I have no problem with the life and cultural aspect of the move. My problem is that I am trying to figure out if the amount they offered me is sufficient for living comfortably. Supposedly this area is quite expensive to live. They have given me a gross figure and an estimated net figure. At first glances the gross looked good but them they gave me the estimated net and it is about 50% of the net. The net that they estimate is about 35,000 euro/yr.

Kristl writes "I have called AT&T and walked into several AT&T stores to ask 'How much will an AT&T phone plan cost per month with taxes and fees and everything?'. No one can answer this question. They are evasive and become testy when I push them on it. Their answer is they can't tell me what the government is going to charge me as the fees can vary month to month, but I've been an AT&T customer for several years, and my taxes and fees have not varied more than a dollar in all of that time. So I question them: 'Can you just tell me what the taxes and fees will be for a 3G plan in California that has the basic calling plan, basic data plan, and the basic text plan?' I even do the math for them, that's $75. Okay AT&T, what are the taxes and fees on $75? Oh, they can't tell me that, as the taxes and fees can vary from month to month.
