New Zealand's captain Daniel Vettori wants wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum to bat at No. 5 to bolster an inexperienced top order in the upcoming Tests against Bangladesh and Australia. McCullum, who was usually used at No. 7 or No. 8, was pushed up the order during the Tests against England earlier this year.

McCullum gives NZ A opening honours

A career-best 6 for 90 from Nathan McCullum, the offspinning allrounder, helped New Zealand A take firm control of the opening day of the first Test against India A in Chennai. India chose to bat after winning the toss and were bowled out for 248 in 75.4 overs, after which New Zealand's openers took stumps on 36 for 0.

KKR to play Twenty20 in Australian pre-season

BRISBANE: Queensland’s state cricket team will play the Indian Premier League team the Kolkata Knight riders in a series of Twenty20 matches in Brisbane next month. The 16-man Kolkata squad will play the Queensland first XI and a Queensland Academy of Sport team in the series of pre-season matches, Queensland officials said Tuesday. The Kolkata franchise, coached by former Australia coach John Bucnanan and owned by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, will be without Australia captain Ricky Ponting and fellow international players Chris Gayle of the West Indies, Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar and New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum. The Knight Riders finished sixth out of eight teams in the inaugural IPL tournament earlier this year. ap
