Blog - MapMe.com - a new, Community mapping mashup

Developed by a team from Down-Under, MapMe enables users to map and share their experiences via maps, video, textual comments and more. the application is powered via the Google Maps API. From teh developer team... MAPme.com can be used to create anything from travel guides for any entire country, or a detailed view of a specific street. The maps can be personal (and private if required) or community based (where content is moderated) or a complete free for all (where anyone can contribute). Hopefully these various map 'types' will give map creators enough flexibility to adjust the way that other people view and relate to the maps they create. Thanks to John McCann, developer, for the tip on another great app! To get rolling, simply create an account and start making a map - the create community map feature is way cool.

Another reason I'm not getting an iPhone 3G

I saw an interesting article over at Gear Diary just now in which they show an AT&T iPhone US 3G coverage map. Man alive, check out that map! Wow, I didn't realize that there were so few areas that do have 3G! I just assumed that my little neck of the woods in North Carolina was one of the few areas that "didn't" have the 3G coverage. I hadn't looked at an AT&T coverage map in awhile so had no idea.

Google Maps Adds Wikipedia Entries

If you go to Google Maps, you’ll notice there is now a “”More” button right next to “Street View”" and “Traffic.” If you click on it after getting a map, you will be given the options to tick “Photos” or “Wikipedia.” Ticking the first option populates teh map with geo-tagged photos provided by Panoramio. Ticking the second gives you geo-coded Wikipedia articles. For instance, I found entries on a New York City map for the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Station, the New York Yacht Club, and other landmarks.

New Map IDs the Core of the Human Brain

gerald626 writes "An international team of researchers has created the first complete high-resolution map of how millions of neural fibers in the human cerebral cortex — the outer layer of the brain responsible for higher level thinking — connect and communicate. Their groundbreaking work identified a single network core, or hub, that may be key to the workings of both hemispheres of the brain. So basically our brain is a network connected to a hub. I wonder if I can get an upgrade to a GigE switch?"

Prediction Markets and the 2008 Electoral Map

Electionwatch submitted a predicted electoral map of the 2008 US Presidential election, based on the bets made by the intrade prediction markets. I'm always interested in these markets and how accurate they end up being. This one calls it for Obama, but then again you probably could guess that by just watching 10 minutes of any TV "News" channel.
