Apple Updates Java for Tiger, Leopard

Apple has released Java updates for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 (Tiger and Leopard) users. Java for Mac OS X 10.x Update 2 delivers improved reliability and compatibility for several editions of Java 1.4.2 on Mac OS X. The release supports all Intel and PowerPC-based Macs, while Java SE 6 is available on 64-bit, Intel-based Macs only. A number of security issues are addressed in the update.

Jade Empire: Special Edition Comes To Intel Macs

TransGaming today announced an agreement with video game developer BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts, to bring the award-winning title, Jade Empire: Special Edition, to the Mac. TransGaming’s digital distribution portal, GameTree Online, has made the title available immediately to the Mac community for purchase via direct download.

StarOffice 9 available as free download - for Macs and PC

Kirchheim-Heimstetten, Germany - Sun Microsystems intends offering a beta version of its StarOffice 9 office suite as a free download. The company said the download would be available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Solaris operating systems. StarOffice 9 will have about 1,500 new functions that weren't available with Version 8. New import filters should make it easier to transfer documents to and from MS Office 2007. The Sun Weblog Publisher allows blog entries to be published from StarOffice 9. The final commercial version is scheduled for release in October.
