LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday extended a stay order against the recovery of luxury tax on imported cars until December 12. The court adjourned the hearing on a request made on behalf of the advocate general, Punjab. Earlier, Justice Maulvi Anwarul Haq had restrained the Punjab government from recovering luxury tax and had sought a report by Friday (today), but an assistant advocate general requested the court to adjourn the hearing. The petitioners, Amina Qaiser, and others had challenged the imposition of luxury tax on imported cars of 2000CC and above, registered after June 2005 vide Punjab Finance Act of 2008. They submitted that the Punjab government, under Section 6 of the Punjab Finance Act 2008, had imposed luxury tax on imported cars registered after June 30, 2005.
