Thanks for stopping by for our final article on Perl lists and hashes. This marks our twelfth issue on the subject (at least until we get to some more advanced techniques later on) and in it, we will look at a few of the functions for manipulating two-dimensional lists, how to create lists with more than two dimensions, and finally, how to make a hash full of lists, which is really quite a handy tool.

My recent round-up of the best of the basic to-do apps for iPhone and iPod touch, which focused on simple apps for tracking lists of tasks, omitted Robert Kieffer's free Zenbe Lists 1.2. Also a basic to-do tracker, Zenbe Lists has two features that set it apart from those other apps: online syncing and sharing.

Perhaps it's the Myers-Briggs J in me, but lists are appealing to me. And when I went to a conference lead by Molly Holzschlag where she showed us that nearly everything in life (and Web design) is a list, I was in heaven. Of course, most people I talk to don't get as excited about styling unordered lists (and ordered and definition...) as I do. But I've finally found someone after my own heart. Designer UAE explains Using CSS and Unordered List Items() to Do Just About Anything. How cool is that? So go forth and use lists! You won't be sorry!

"From yesterday's posts on list permutations you can basically understand, even if you didn't run the code, how very many different combinations of 6 numbers there can be, when duplication is not a factor (i.e. 1, 2, 3 is different than 3, 2, 1). In our case, given our Objective, we would want those number lists, in parentheses above, to be considered equal. So how do we go about that?"

A friend recently piqued my interest in the blog of fellow Thought Leader scribe Bridgette McNulty. McNulty is the author of the novel Strange Nervous Laughter, which I haven’t read — but that doesn’t matter because I am intrigued by the woman not because she has published fiction, but because of her propensity to make lists. I like making lists, however I’ve never done it in public. Now that I’ve perused her blog and have discovered how pleasant it can be to read a neat list rather than paragraphs of narcissistic rambling, I’ve decided to compile one of my own.

In the calm after the Photokina 2008 storm, there’s a lull in digital camera-related news this week, but Amazon is hoping to cash in on some post-Photokina camera shopping at least. The e-tail giant has launched a special storefront dedicated to cameras announced at the show, with a big splash page on its Camera, Photo & Video section. The exciting news is that hot new cameras like the Canon PowerShot G10 and Canon EOS 50D are starting to ship. Though Amazon doesn’t have the former in stock and lists a 1 to 2 month lead time for shipping the latter, there are links to third-party sellers who do have the cameras in stock. Same goes for the Nikon D90. Amazon lists it as a pre-order but then links to a slew of third-party sellers with the camera in stock.

"Our objective has been modified (in form, not in nature) to accommodate this change (and I've updated the original post's definitions as well): Given a Number Pool of "x through y," create the maximum possible Fixed List Length variations of our Fixed List that contain some variation of our Guaranteed Combination, without any duplication (i.e. 1, 2, 3 is equal to 2, 3, 1 and would only count as one match), and return the results."

Okay, Apple, we know that you’ve had some trouble getting your act together since the iPhone 3G launch, but when you list two different prices in different areas of iTunes for the same app, that is when it is just getting ridiculous. Case in point, Dashbuster. I downloaded the free version from the App Store about a week ago, as it sounded fantastic to be able to manage my Netflix queue from the iPhone. The app, however, was missing a couple of features that I wanted - namely, the ability to add movies to the queue, select the format of the disc, etc. That was to come in the pad version.

TiVo's removed their Series3 DVR from the main shop, leaving only the TiVo Series2 at $150 and TiVo HD at $300. What's the upshot of this? To us, it seems like they're either phasing out the Series3 entirely in favor of the cheaper-to-produce TiVo HD, or they're liquidating the units for an upcoming Series4 featuring all those bad ass things we wanted. If you still adamantly want a TiVo Series3, you'll have to look elsewhere, since the entry buried deep inside the store is out of stock. [TiVo via Engadget]
