June 10, 2008 - The NPD has released its top 10 best-selling PC games list for the week of May 25 to 31. Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures continues to hold its first place spot for two straight weeks. The MMORPG made its impressive debut on the NPD sales charts last week. BioWare's Mass Effect action RPG, released May 27, makes its first appearance on the list and grabs the second spot. While certain games have shifted positions on the list, the real noteworthy change is the fact that Crytek's Crysis FPS once again slips out of the top 10 while Stardock's Sins of a Solar Empire strategy game reappears on the list at number 9.

KARACHI, July 6 (Agencies): Ajantha Mendis was always going to be one of the posers for the Indian batsmen, but even then they would have thought 273 was gettable. They underestimated the bowler, or rather, overestimated their own abilities to handle him. The result was a sobering 100-run defeat, with Mendis returning figures of 6-13.

The "Independent" Skype Journal (aka The Skype Cheerleading Squad) has published a list of "advantages" of Skype over the 3G iPhone. Unfortunately, the very first item on their list highlights one of the major flaws in Skype. They list "Sharing your availability and mood message" - in fact, Skype has tremendous problems with accurately showing availability (or presence), to the point where in many cases it is basically random information with no real significance. So what is the point of faulting the 3G iPhone for not having something that Skype has proven incapable of doing themselves? In the same vein, the Skype "mood message" has been the source of security problems recently, was completely blocked for a while because of security concerns, and judging from complaints made in the Skype "Community", is still not working properly for many

David Perry, Chief Creative Officer of Acclaim Games, has identified 29 possible ways to monetize video games in a recent CNET-article. There is nothing revolutionary here - the list includes Advertgames, Episodic Entertainment and Micro-Transactions. But the list illustrates an important point - the games industry (and all other mediums for that sake) has to diversify its revenue stream in the face of competition, piracy and the economy. Fortunately there are, at least, 29 ways of doing that readily available for developers. Looking forwards to a lively discussion about this topic at our upcoming NY Games Conference, where we have several panels dedicated to monetization. In the meantime, post a comment and let us know what you think of Perry's list.
