SAN FRANCISCO (08/14/2008) - Sun Microsystems on Thursday is releasing source code for the Java ME-based (Micro Edition) Lightweight UI Toolkit (LWUIT), a move intended to address fragmentation in the mobile development space.

Pre-Photokina 2008: To accompany the anouncement of its K-m DSLR, Pentax has launched the 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 DA-L and 50-200mm F4-5.6 DA-L lenses. The new DA-L lenses are re-engineered, lightweight versions of existing lenses. Plastic lens mounts and the removal of the manu focus-override mechanisms help reduce weight. They will only be available in kits with the new K-m.

Schunk Intec has now tailored its LEG long-stroke electric gripper to the automation requirements of the packaging industry for lightweight gripping systems with flexible strokes. Developed as a lightweight gripper weighing only 8.8 kg when operated with a single servomotor, the LEG delivers a gripping force of 1140 N and a variable stroke from zero to 568 mm. The side cheeks of the modular system are available in various sizes, as are the connecting elements, guide rails and slides. This variability makes it possible to design the gripper for the various tasks and payloads of industry. The Schunk LEG is available with pneumatic or electric drives with servo-electric drives that make it possible to measure and regulate the gripping forces. With the use of a single servomotor the gripper fingers move synchronously.
