The discussion of statistics being weird is valid. In my blog post in June on the ADA update, I pointed it out as well. After a lot of digging on veterans and U.S. govt websites, I couldn't find a resolution. I'll paste below the relevant part of my blog because I can't actually link to it. (sorry). BEGIN BLOG POST EXERPT: "Regarding disabled American veterans, a 2007 Census report said that there are 6.1 million veterans with a disability, with about 3.5 million of them over 65 years of age. However, according to the Associated Press, the number of DAVs has increased 25% (to 2.9 million) since 2001, because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't know why the AP article and the Census figures were so far off on the number of DAVs. According to the AP article, there are "755,000 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

NASA analyzes Martian soil data

NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander's Surface Stereo Imager took this image on the 14th Martian day of the Phoenix mission on June 8, 2008. It shows two trenches dug by Phoenix's Robotic Arm, each trench is about 3 inches wide. Soil from the right trench, informally called "Baby Bear," was delivered to Phoenix's Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer, or TEGA, on June 6. The trench on the left is informally called "Dodo" and was dug as a test. This view is presented in approximately true color by combining separate exposures taken through different filters of the Surface Stereo Imager. Newegg Defies New York Sales Tax Law

JagsLive informs us that the electronics retailer Newegg.com is defying New York lawmakers; it has suddenly stopped collecting sales tax from New York online shoppers. Newegg started out complying with the law on June 1, but stopped collecting taxes for New York on August 21. From Newegg's letter to its customers: "After careful review and consideration, we are pleased to inform you that we have stopped collecting New York sales tax, effective August 21, 2008," reads an email the company tossed at customers late last week, including at least one l

Online spending reaches 4.8bn in July

IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index on Wednesday showed online spending rose in July to reach a total market value of over £4.8 billion - the equivalent of £79 for every person in the UK. Online retail growth draws a sharp comparison to BRC figures which showed that high street sales for July were 0.9% down on June. A wet July did not appear to curb UK shoppers as they turned to the internet to continue their spending. The rain inspired shoppers to holiday plans and new summer wardrobes which saw online sales in the clothing, footwear and accessories sector grow by 22.8% for July.
