In a sign of how the General Electric media unit views the property, the company today said its Peacock Equity capital-investment arm helped finance a $5 million investment in BlogHer, an online community for female bloggers.

Canon USA has announced the EOS Rebel XS, launched in other markets as the EOS 1000D on June 10th. In the United States, the camera will be available in a choice of black or silver but will not be available as body-only, with all units coming bundled with the EF-S 18-55mm IS lens. Canon has also announced its plans to build its first new Japanese factory for over a quarter of a century, which will build digital cameras.

Japan's Canon on Monday released its 17.4 billion yen ($161.8 million) plan to build a new digital camera manufacturing facility on the island of Kyushu to meet growing market demand. The firm expects the new factory will help it contend with heated competition from Sony, for simpler models, and Nikon, for more sophisticated ones.

Amazon.com has made an investment in The Talk Market, a New York startup that bills itself as a "user-generated TV Shopping Channel." Amount of the investment was not disclosed. According to The Talk Market, the equity investment closed in May. The Talk Market provides tools that allow users to upload videos, and generate graphic overlays, add graphics, and soundtracks and sell items from the company's web site; Amazon provides payment services with the Amazon Web Services Flexible Payment Service to the company.
