We've been pointing out how there needs to be a lot more sunlight shone on the discussion surrounding the new "ACTA" treaty, which is basically a way for the entertainment industry to sneak through new copyright laws without getting Congressional approval. Basically, the entertainment industry writes this international treaty, and the US Trade Representative gets it approved. Then, suddenly you get stories from lobbyists for the industry about how we need to change our copyright laws to live up to international agreements. Sneaky, right?

PricewaterhouseCoopers is about to release a new industry report titled "Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2008-2012". The overall video game industry is expected to grow 10.3% annually but console games will continue to dominate sales which will grow at a healthy 6.9% per year. Online games are predicted to see the highest annual growth rate of 16.9% but will still have a way to go to catch up to console sales. Video game advertising, a relatively new entry, is also predicted to have strong growth at 16.7% annually. PC games will continue to be the industry laggard with an expectation of decreased sales between now and 2012. They are predicting an annual growth rate of negative 1.2%. This news doesn't bode well for hard-core PC gamers as this will likely lead to a reduced investment in quality titles.

Good news for the UK games industry today, as the government confirmed that they are supportive of Britain's independent studios and recognise their importance as a "creative industry" contributing to "the economy and to the UK's cultural richness". And even better than that, they're starting to "collect and review the evidence" for introducing financial support along the lines of the EU approved tax-breaks for the French gaming industry.

While the total size of the space industry has been reliably estimated at about $251 billion in 2007 according to the Space Foundation’s The Space Report 2008, most of that represents parts of the industry that is well understood by the investment community, such as communications and navigation services. Only a small part of this sum is devoted to visionary and entrepreneurial ventures; the so-called “NewSpace” industry is poorly understood.

In 2002 McCain voted against an initiative that would have improved textile workers' factories. Considering the U.S. probably has one of the highest demands for clothing of all sorts, it would be great if our own workers could benefit from the market. Here's a link on McCain and his lack of support for textile and apparel employees in 2002. Our textile industry should be growing, not being tripped up by short-sighted industry policies. So a bunch of people want to delve into the textile industry and McCain can't see a reason to fund it. Gives a new meaning to "take the shirt off your back". So what's with McCain's approach? McCain is a doofus. The textile industry's time has come to play 1st string, not 2nd fiddle. Obama could take this on. Let's get someone who sees the need to fund the future of our textile industries.
