Battlefield Heroes' Changes are Largely About Accessibility And Fun

Work continues on Battlefield Heroes despite the recent closure of the game's beta, and producer Aleksander Grondal recently talked it up with Gamasutra. Grondal isn't a Battlefield developer veteran, instead having previously worked on Anarchy Online and Dreamfall at Funcom. As such, he brings a different mentality to the team working on Heroes, which he claims is a mixture of half newcomers to the series and half previous Battlefield developers.

Science heroes and villains of 2008

The collective brain of New Scientist has come up with 8 scientist heroes of the year and people to look out for in 2009, 3 non-scientists who deserve special mention – and two possible bad guys. Heroes first:

Ashes Heroes No 33: Greg Chappell

Apologies for not posting an Ashes Heroes essay last week but our blogging software wasn't working properly in Dubai and it didn't really seem appropriate to write a long post on Anglo-Australian matters when events in Mumbai were at the forefront of our minds. Back to normal today and there will be a second essay on Friday. This week, after an Edwardian bowler, we have a South Australian batsman.

Ashes Heroes No 28: Ricky Ponting

Into the new year and our Ashes Heroes series reaches No 28. There will be 12 captains in the rest of the list, six for each side for those who want to play guessing games, and this week's entry is a man whose record in Ashes series so far is played 2, won 1, lost 1. For all the humiliation he heaped on England in the last series, history will record later this year (barring a surprising sacking) if Ricky Ponting is to be regarded as a successful captain or not. Given his impressive batting record, he probably deserves to be higher in this list.

News: Suda 51 Discusses NMH On 360

Shortly after No More Heroes was released on Wii and it's success confirmed, it was revealed that the game had originally been conceived as an Xbox 360 title. When the sequel - No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle - was unveiled, some questioned the position of the franchise, and whether Suda 51 would go back and rethink the decision to place the game on 360.

Ashes Heroes No 31: Jeff Thomson

Our countdown of the greatest competitors in the history of the Ashes continues into a twentieth week and I'm only four days behind schedule. I'm sure England can wait for me to catch up over the next six months. After Geoff Boycott last week, we look at a man who spent much of the '70s trying to knock the cap off Boycott's head.

Ashes Heroes No 32: Geoffrey Boycott

Last week's Ashes Hero was a stylish and classy Australian batsman, loved by many. This week's isn't. But as the man himself might say, he were bloody effective nonetheless.

The unsung heroes of domestic cricket

NEW DELHI: Amol Muzumdar, Amarjeet Kaypee, Ajay Sharma, Jacob Martin, Rajinder Goel and Padmakar Shivalkar. These guys don't make heads turn like the Tendulkars, Sehwags and Dravids do, but in domestic cricket, they have been the undisputed badshahs.

Mid-Market Heroes: Opting For Online Content Management

Tired of e-mailing documents back and forth to co-workers and dealing with compatibility issues along with files that were too large, the Distressed Property Institute turned to Xythos on Demand, a document management site that allows customers to store any file type. At $400 to $600 a year, it's the right fit for a six-employee company that couldn't maintain a server and backup at that price.
